Pitt Adds Louisiana Tech Transfer Wide Receiver Jerrod “Bub” Means

Published

Following spring practice, the Pitt Panthers had one scholarship, and they used it by adding a playmaker to their already explosive offense.

Friday night, Pitt added to their 2022 wide receiving room by getting a commitment from Louisiana Tech transfer wide receiver Jerrod “Bub” Means. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound playmaker made his decision to join the Panthers at the end of his visit to Pittsburgh. Means has spent the past three days touring the campus, facilities and spending time with members of the Pitt program.

Coming out of Lovejoy High School in Hampton, Georgia, Means was a three-star recruit in the class of 2019 when originally signing with Tennessee, where he played defensive back. After transferring from the Volunteers program, Means joined Louisiana Tech in 2020 and sat out. He saw action last season and went on to catch 22 passes for 430 yards (19.5 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. Means strength is that he’s a big wide receiver with strong hands that can really run.

Means was a player that was being pursued while in the transfer portal, as the staff at Miami (Fla.) was making a heavy push to try and bring him to South Florida. He is a redshirt junior and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Pitt.

The rich just got richer as Tiquan Underwood’s receiver room just got better. In what is arguably the deepest and most talented position at Pitt, the wide receiver depth chart already has Jordan Addison, Jared Wayne, Konata Mumpfield, Jaylon Barden, Jaden Bradley, Che Nwabuko and Myles Alston.

I wonder if one of the receivers on the roster is transferring cause this move makes no sense since our receiver room is pretty full now

Good point! I thought LB or TE would have been the position we would try to fill with the last one available. But they know better than us.

I’m surprised that Pitt didn’t use this last opening to land a stud QB. Probably looking to do that for next year.

This is a great addition. Now, my only concern (after watching the spring game), is will Pitt have a QB to sling it to these guys.

If Spring practice and heart are any indications, I’ve got a feeling Patti is gonna win out. I think subtly the team is behind him.

So much depends on the offensive line which is returning for another season. The QBs, Patti or Solvis will be alright as long as they’re protected.
