Pitt Adds Another Cornerback Commitment from 2023 3-Star CB Shelton Lewis

When Shelton Lewis entered the month of June, all four of the teams he planned official visits for were about neck and neck in his recruiting chase. He just wanted to make his visits and see where he ended up after he each one.

It’s fair to say that Pitt managed to make a strong impression.

Lewis, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound three-star cornerback from Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, Georgia, officially committed to Pitt Saturday after his official visit.

Lewis picked Pitt over offers from Arkansas, Boston College, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Akron, Army, Buffalo, Colorado State, Duke, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Liberty, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky.

With three-star cornerbacks Shadarian Harrison (Lakeland, Florida) and Brice Pollock (Snellville, Georgia) committing off of Pitt’s June 2 official visit period, Lewis provides a trio of strong, lengthy cornerbacks to Pitt’s defensive secondary. With a strong bond with both secondary coach Archie Collins and safeties coach Cory Sanders, Lewis will integrate into the system almost seamlessly.

Lewis rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on just seven carries and added 31 tackles (11 solo), eight passes defended and a fumble recovery as a junior at Stockbridge, flashing his versatility for the Tigers, but he’s destined to be a defensive back.

247Sports rates Lewis as the 922nd-ranked recruit in the class (78th-ranked cornerback and the 90th-ranked recruit from Georgia) while On3 rates him as the 754th-ranked recruit in the class (72nd-ranked cornerback and the 76th-ranked recruit from Georgia).

Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class includes four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey (Hendersonville, Tennessee) and four-star wide receiver Zion Fowler (Jersey City, New Jersey), and the class has added Harrison, Pollock, three-star wide receiver Kenny Johnson (York, Pennsylvania) and three-star defensive tackle Isaiah Neal (Baltimore Maryland), with one more yet to be announced.

Lewis had visits planned for UNC, Arkansas, Boston College and Vanderbilt, but it remains to be seen if he’ll go through with those official visits now.
