Pitt’s Calijah Kancey Named To Sporting News Preseason All-American Team

More national recognition for Pitt junior defensive tackle Calijah Kancey.

The Sporting News has released their 2022 Preseason All-American Teams and it included No. 8 from Pitt. Keep in mind, Sporting News is one of five national media outlets used to determine consensus All-American status at the end of the season.

Kancey was placed on the Second-Team defensive line, along with Clemson’s Myles Murphy, Florida’s Gervon Dexter and LSU’s BJ Ojulari. The first-team defensive line consisted of Clemson’s Byran Bresee, Notre Dame’s Isaiah Foskey, Iowa State’s Will McDonald IV and Georgia’s Jalen Carter.

Kancey has also been named a 2nd Team Walter Camp Football Preseason All-American, along with a preseason first-team All-ACC and first-team All-American by Athlon Sports.

As a sophomore in 2021, earning first-team All-ACC and third-team All-American honors, Kancey racked up 35 tackles (25 solo), 13 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense as the anchor of Pitt’s stellar defensive line.

In just two seasons, he’s compiled 62 tackles (37 solo), 20 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, three passes defended and a forced fumble. And that’s all come as a defensive tackle — an anchor inside.

Kancey’s status as one of the very best defenders in college football is becoming clearer by the day, and his NFL Draft stock will only continue to increase, as he will once again anchor Pitt’s defensive line in 2022.

how soon does he opt out this year to train for the NFL draft?

If you risk a chance to make millions to play for dear old U, expect you would be training now.

you are confused…their is off-season training, in-season training and then opting out to avoid injury and train for the combine.

Pitt has a chance to repeat as ACC champs again. The players are a close knit group that love playing together. Why would he leave? You can not help being a douche, huh?

Why would he opt out? Jahan Dotson did not opt out last season playing on a 7-6 team that lost to Illinois. Dotson still went 16th overall. Dotson also stayed out of prison and off the Megans law list, too. Kancey can showcase himself playing one on of the top defensive lines in college football.
