PITTSBURGH — The Westinghouse Bulldogs began their WPIAL playoff run with a 48-15 win over the Chestnut Ridge Lions.

The Lions took an early lead, but Westinghouse settled down after the first quarter and put on cruise control, aided by five touchdown passes from QB Keyshawn Morsillo. The Bulldogs didn’t allow a touchdown in the final three quarters.

Chestnut Ridge received the opening kickoff and marched down the field, scoring from five yards out on a keeper by junior quarterback Nate Whysong. The Bulldogs blocked the extra point attempt, but a penalty gave the Lions a chance to go for two. They succeeded.

Westinghouse responded with a 53 yard deep touchdown from Morsillo to receiver Davon Jones. Running back Khalil Taylor took a two-point carry up the middle to tie the game at 8.

Chestnut Ridge QB/OLB Dalton Lemin returned the following kickoff for a touchdown, and a 15-7 lead. A Bulldogs three-and-out gave the Lions a prime opportunity to score again, but Westinghouse got the ball back after blowing up a fourth down trick play.

Morsillo responded with a 50 yard touchdown pass to receiver Sincere Smith. Westinghouse took their first lead of the game, 16-15, when Morsillo found Taymir Oneal in the end zone on the two-point try.

Taylor ran off the left end to score a nine yard touchdown midway through the second quarter, but a low extra point held the score to 22-15.

The Bulldogs cashed in again before halftime, helped by a 42 yard pass from Morsillo to Smith to enter Eagles’ territory.

Morsillo found Jones in the end zone for a touchdown, then Smith caught a pass over a defender in the end zone on the two point attempt to make it 30-15.

Taylor tiptoed down the sideline to pick up 48 yards on the first drive of the second half, setting up a two yard touchdown carry by Shaun Robinson. A missed extra point made it 36-15.

The following drive, Chestnut Ridge drove to the Westinghouse 8 before turning the ball over on downs.

Westinghouse made it 42-15 with a 70 yard catch-and-run touchdown from Morsillo to Smith.

Morsillo added his fifth touchdown of the evening on a six yard pass to Tyrese Davis, taking a 48-15 lead.

On defense, Taylor snagged a fourth quarter interception, as did Bulldogs DB Deshaun Blackwell.

Westinghouse (10-0) advances to face the Berlin Mountaineers. Chestnut Ridge (6-5) sees their season come to a close.

Elsewhere in the City League, USO will host Meadville on Saturday, November 12 in Class-4A. Taylor Allderdice will play McDowell in the Class-5A playoffs.
