Elon Transfer Punter Jeff Yurk Commits to Pitt Following Visit

Published

Pitt’s punting woes are well documented, as three different punters took the field and struggled to some extent in 2022, and there are reinforcements on the way.

Elon transfer punter Jeff Yurk made a visit to Pitt over the weekend, and he couldn’t leave without officially giving his commitment to Pat Narduzzi and Pitt.

“I’ll be visiting this weekend,” Yurk told PSN before the visit. “I’ll be watching practice, getting a tour of the facilities and school, hopefully having a good time. I’m really looking forward to being up there.”

Yurk said that at that point in time he was still working out the details surrounding his offer to Pitt, whether it was a scholarship or preferred walk-on offer, but his visit was enough to convince him to commit regardless of the extent of his offer — which was extended on Dec. 8.

Yurk was one of the best punters in the FCS last season, averaging 44.1 yards per punt — which set the Elon record — with 18 punts inside the 20-yard line and 16 punts of at least 50 yards.

He earned FCS Sophomore All-American and All-CAA after finishing fifth in the FCS in punting average.

With Sam Vander Haar set to return as Pitt’s scholarship punter, and Caleb Junko and Cam Guess still on the roster, Yurk will entering a punting room looking for a spark.

It’s clear that Pitt thinks highly enough of Yurk to give him a chance to win the starting job next season.

Good! Glad to have the help. Punting was terrible this season.

There were games where Narduzzi would use three punters, but only ONE ineffective QB.

Maybe he will use four punters in a game in 2023.
