The final Pitt basketball home game of the season continues to increase in anticipation. On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Panthers will host the Syracuse Orange inside the Petersen Events Center in front of a sellout crowd.
Oakland Zoo single tickets and buddy passes are also unavailable while season pass holders are advised to claim their tickets quickly before they are no longer available. At a capacity of 12,508, the Pete sold out against Miami on Jan. 28 for the first time since 2019 as Pitt upset the now No. 15 Hurricanes, 71-68.
Earlier this month, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim alleged the Panthers ‘bought a team’ while also including Wake Forest and Miami in his comments. Frustrated about the state of college hoops, Boeheim announced that he will ‘probably’ return to the Orange next season but is disturbed by where the sport is going. Meanwhile, head coach Jeff Capel was named Friday to the Naismith Coach of the Year Watch List.
“This is an awful place we’re in in college basketball,” Boeheim told Pete Thamel of ESPN. “Pittsburgh bought a team. OK, fine. My [big donor] talks about it, but he doesn’t give anyone any money. Nothing. Not one guy. Our guys make like $20,000. Wake Forest bought a team. Miami bought a team. … It’s like, ‘Really, this is where we are?’ That’s really where we are, and it’s only going to get worse.”
Boeheim apologized to the schools and sought to clarify his comments regarding NIL and his true intentions. The Oakland Zoo along with Pitt legend and Rutgers associate head coach Brandin Knight joined a litany of Panther supporters to voice their opinion and draw attention to the upcoming matchup.
Pitt and Syracuse will meet at 5 p.m. next weekend. The Panthers defeated the Orange 84-82 in New York on Dec. 20, holding onto a lead that was once 20 points. Blake Hinson record a 25-point, 13-rebound double-double and Nelly Cummings knocked down six threes in the victory.
Predicted a large crowd when Boeheim dumped on us.
Boeheim of all people talking about buying players lol. Never saw why people are enamored with him. He’s rude, an asshole to the media, a hypocrite, treats refs like his own personal whipping post, and had a pedophile on his staff for years. Let him have it February 25th
