History: Duquesne, Pitt Reach 20 Wins in Same Season for Just Second Time Ever

PITTSBURGH — For just the second time in the history of the programs,, both Pitt and Duquesne have reached 20 wins in the same season.

The last, and only other time that the two programs both won 20 games was in 2008-09, when Pitt finished 31-5 and Duquesne went 21-13. Jamie Dixon was leading the Panthers and Ron Everhart was in year three leading Duquesne at the time.

The Duquesne program has won 20+ games 15 times in its history, while Pitt has surpassed 20 wins 23 times.

Duquesne, led by Jimmy Clark III, David Dixon, and company, took down UMass on Wednesday night by a score of 88-79 to improve to 20-10 on the year. Pitt fell to Notre Dame, 88-81, dropping its record to 21-9 on the year.

The Dukes win over UMass locked in their first 20-win season since 2019-20. Pitt, on the other hand, has not won 20 games since the 2015-16 season, the last of the Dixon era. Duquesne is currently sitting at 10-7 in league play, good for fifth place in the Atlantic 10. Pitt, at 14-5 in the ACC, is tied for first in the ACC with Miami and Virginia.

The Panthers will face off against the Hurricanes on Saturday in Coral Gables, Florida for the conference crown. Duquesne will wrap up its regular season with a matchup against Fordham (23-6, 11-5 Atlantic 10) on Saturday.
