PITTSBURGH — There will be dozens and dozens of recruits in the classes of 2024, 2025 and 2026 hosted this spring on the South Side, but there isn’t a bigger name than Quinton Martin.

Martin, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound four-star athlete from Belle Vernon High in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, made a visit to the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for Pitt’s first spring practice of 2023.

It’s just the latest visit for Pitt’s top priority in the class of 2024. Martin is rated as the No. 1 recruit in Pennsylvania, ranked inside the top 50 nationally in the latest 247Sports and Rivals ratings.

He told PSN that Pitt’s coaching staff remains open-minded about where he will play at the next level, considering he stars as a running back and defensive back at Belle Vernon. And he was able to have the chance to check out all facets of Pitt’s offense and defense Tuesday morning.

As a junior at Belle Vernon, he was the leading rusher (1,274 yards and 22 touchdowns) and receiver (424 yards and six touchdowns) while adding 22 tackles and four interceptions defensively.

With offers from the likes of Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others, Pitt will have heavy competition for one of the most sought-after recruits in the cycle.

Pitt does have the advantage of being the first Power Five school to offer Martin, way back in 2020, and he’s made numerous visits to Pitt — including a visit last spring. Pat Narduzzi has been recruiting Martin personally, making appearances at Martin’s football and basketball games.

It will be important to get Martin on campus as often as possible in the lead up to his eventual commitment later this year.
