DAYTON, Ohio — On Tuesday morning, Pitt forward John Hugley announced that he intends to enter the transfer portal, as first reported by Joe Tipton of On3.
Hugley spent the past three seasons with the Panthers.
After missing the beginning of the season due to a knee injury suffered in practice, Hugley played in eight games, averaging 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game for Pitt.
In mid-January, he announced he would be sitting out the remainder of the season. On Tuesday, Hugley told Tipton the following statement:
“To the Pittsburgh coaching staff, I thank you for always pushing me to be the best version of myself on the court. I am forever grateful for the opportunity the Pittsburgh Nation has given me and that will always be held very close to my heart.”
Hugley wraps up his Pitt career with 47 games in a Panther uniform under his belt. He averaged 12.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in his career in Pittsburgh.
With Hugley out of the mix for next season, Pitt will have seven scholarship players returning next year along with three new players coming in — Jaland Lowe, Carlton Carrington, and Marlon Barnes. Pitt now has three scholarships available for next season.
No surprise. He was at the MAC tournament in Cleveland on Thursday with friends. Pitt was playing Duke at that time. Pitt was the furthest thing from his mind. He has a lot of problems. They can be some other schools now.
What a teammate, announce his decision on the day they play their biggest game in years! Plus leaving the school that stood beside you in all your troubles, what has happened to loyalty these days, its nonexistent!
What a nincompoop.
Good riddance…Pitt got better once he left the lineup
Maybe he will get in shape for his new team.
Pitt had a good season without him. In the future they will be better off if he is gone.
Just hope this doesn’t make the kid that just signed from his high school want to try and get released from NLI
