PITTSBURGH – ACC news and notes Thursday involve a commitment to Virginia, Wake Forest scheduling a visit, and Kadin Shedrick rescheduling his meetings with interested programs.

Merrimack Grad Transfer Jordan Minor Commits to Virginia

The Virginia Cavaliers have added a veteran forward in his final year of eligibility. Grad transfer Jordan Minor has committed to play for head coach Tony Bennett, Joe Tipton of On3 announced. A 6-foot-8 Kingston, Massachusetts native, Minor was named NEC Co-Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and was a First Team All-NEC selection this season. He progressed from Third Team NEC to Second Team in the past two years before taking a significant jump.

Minor posted a career-high 17.4 points per game and led the NEC in rebounds (9.5), blocks (59), blocks per game (2.36), and offensive rebounds (82). He dominated the regular and post-season en route to winning the NEC Tournament but failed to reach March Madness due to NCAA eligibility rules prohibiting schools from qualification for a specific amount of time after moving up to Division I. Virginia lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Furman in the final seconds and has not won a tournament game since winning the 20219 National Championship.

Seton Hall Transfer Tyrese Samuel to visit Wake Forest

Wake Forest is looking to add to its roster following the departure of Lucas Cooper, Robert McCray, and Davion Bradford. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported Thursday that Seton Hall transfer Tyrese Samuel will visit Wake Forest this weekend. He will also visit Florida during his recruiting tour. Samuel started all 33 games for the Pirates and averaged a career-best 11.0 points and 5.9 rebounds.

He also notched career totals in blocks (26) and steals (37). The 6-foot-10 senior has one year of eligibility remaining. The Demon Deacons closed the 2022-23 season 19-14 overall and 10-10 in ACC competition. Wake Forest defeated Syracuse at the buzzer to begin the ACC Tournament and fell to Miami, who advanced to the final four, by two in its season finale.

Virginia Transfer Forward Kadin Shedrick to Reschedule Visits

Kadin Shedrick is a popular name in the transfer portal but will be rescheduling multiple visits due to personal matters, per Tipton. Shedrick was originally preparing to visit Duke on Saturday, Texas on April 18, and Missouri the following day. The 6-foot-11 redshirt junior averaged 6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 30 games (15 starts). He shot 64.7% from the floor but 20% behind the arc.

Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchell, and Tyrese Proctor are all returning to Duke next season and Jeremy Roach declared for the 2023 NBA Draft while retaining his collegiate eligibility. The Blue Devils also welcome a highly regarded recruiting class for Jon Scheyer’s second season despite the five-star prospect Mackenzie Mgbako wanting out of his NLI.
