PITTSBURGH – ACC news and notes Friday involve slowed a bit as the weekend approaches. It will not be a quiet few days for Syracuse forward Jesse Edwards. Grant Basile is continuing his basketball career overseas and today’s update includes more notes throughout the conference.

Syracuse Transfer Forward Jesse Edwards to Visit West Virginia

Top transfer Jesse Edwards has narrowed his wide range of schools to three, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. The 6-foot-11 senior is down to West Virginia, Kansas, and Gonzaga to play his final year of eligibility. Edwards played the last four seasons under Jim Boeheim and Syracuse before losing in the first round of the 2023 ACC Tournament and the greatest coach in Orange history calling it quits.

Edwards averaged a double-double of 14.5 points and 10.3 rebounds as a senior and joined star guard Joe Girard in the portal earlier this week. A move to Morgantown would see the 230-pounder from the Netherlands face Pitt one final time in West Virginia. He scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in a home loss to the Panthers on Dec. 20 and responded with 17 points including seven at the line inside the Petersen Events Center on Feb. 25.

Virginia Tech Forward Grant Basile Forgoes Final Year of Eligibility, Signs Overseas

Virginia Tech’s Grant Basile will not return for his final season of eligibility. The former Wright State and Hokies forward posted that he was departing the program on Friday around the same time a new team announced him as their newest addition. Basile has signed with Derthona Basket overseas, a Serie A basketball club. The team is in Toronta, Italy, and Basile has Italian heritage, according to Hokies reporter David Cunningham.

As a graduate student at Virginia Tech, Basile was named Honorable Mention All-ACC after ranking seventh in the conference at 16.4 points per appearance. He spent four years at Wright State, scoring over 1,000 points, before transferring from the Horizon League to the ACC. A main threat on both ends, Basile averaged 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, shot 52% from the floor, 39% behind the arc, and 71% from three.

Florida State Guard Tibor Palinkas Enters Transfer Portal

Seminoles guard Tibor Palinkas has entered the transfer portal, according to Verbal Commits. A 6-foot-5 junior originally from Kecskemet, Hungary, Palinkas played at DII Clayton State three years ago and Tallahassee Community College two years ago before becoming a walk-on at FSU. He did not appear in a game this season. Florida State ended the 2022-23 campaign 9-23 overall and 7-13 in ACC play.

Virginia to Host Morgan State Next Year

Virginia will host Morgan State during its 2023-24 season, according to CBS Sports Insider Jon Rothstein. The Cavaliers finished 15-1 at home this past season and 25-8 overall (15-5 ACC). Tony Bennett’s team lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Furman and has not won a March Madness game since the 2019 National Championship.
