The 2023 season has arrived, and Pitt will kick off its season against Wofford today at Acrisure Stadium.
Phil Jurkovec and the offense, which has potential difference-makers at running back, wide receiver and tight end, will get a chance to showcase a new look in Year 2 of Frank Cignetti Jr.’s offense. And a young defense will get a chance to show that Pitt is reloading, not rebuilding, this season.
It’s the first-ever matchup between Pitt and Wofford this season, with former offensive coordinator Shawn Watson returning to Pittsburgh as the Terriers’ head coach and offensive coordinator, and it should be an interesting reunion.
“It’s game time,” Pat Narduzzi said at Monday’s press conference. “I think it’s fun to get into game week. I think our guys are excited about playing somebody else, game planning, really working situations. I think that’s part of the game. I think they’re sick of hitting each other. I think it’s a great opportunity to find out where we are.”
Pitt will roll with its traditional colors — the Oakland Originals uniforms — against Wofford. Gold helmets with Pitt script, royal blue jerseys with gold numbers and gold pants. With the royal blue gloves, of course. It’s one of the cleanest jerseys in all of college football.
Pitt expects to come out and execute against Wofford Saturday afternoon, making sure it checks off all the boxes and plays as it expects to this season, and Narduzzi is ready to his team in action finally.
