Social Media Activity Shows Positive Signs for Pitt in Thiero Recruitment

Signs are pointing up in regards to Pitt’s recruitment of Kentucky transfer and former Quaker Valley product Adou Thiero.

Within the past two days, Thiero has slightly hinted several times about a potential homecoming with Pitt and it has stirred up speculation on social media.

It started with a picture on his Instagram story on a visit with the Panthers, which is something that is quite customary, so take what you will with that information.

However, the second part of its came when Kentucky football transfer Jeremiah Anglin Jr. announced his commitment to Pitt and it was followed by another Thiero Instagram story post with a caption that read “welcome 😂.” Again, read into it however you want, but its a bit intriguing that Pitt is a top destination for Thiero and he is interacting with a fellow Kentucky transfer athlete who just landed with the Panthers as if he’s welcoming Anglin to his home.

What’s more, Thiero now follows head coach Jeff Capel and guard Jaland Lowe on Instagram. With the emergence of social media in recruiting over the last decade, these are certainly positive indicators to what could come next.

Pitt is competing for Thiero primarily with North Carolina and concern is starting to mount on the side of the Tar Heels with the recent Pitt activity on Thiero’s social media.

Thiero, a 6-foot-8 forward, entered to portal following the news of Kentucky head coach John Calipari leaving for Arkansas.

Since then, Thiero announced a top five that included a return to Kentucky, Pitt, North Carolina, Arkansas and Indiana.

In two seasons at Kentucky, Thiero played in 45 games, averaging five points per contest on 46.6 percent shooting, while grabbing 3.6 rebound per game.

According to 247 Sports, Thiero was ranked as a four-star prospect coming out of Quaker Valley in high school. As a transfer, he ranks as the 27th-best portal option with a 95 rating.

A Thiero addition would round out a fantastic portal class for Capel after adding the likes of Florida State big man Cam Corhen  and Houston guard Damian Dunn.

With the bolstering of the guard position and depth now at the five, Pitt could use the addition of Thiero to finalize things in the middle of the lineup at the three or four .

I would imagine Carr going to Kentucky would hurt the chances of going back there

Adou needs to see major opening at Pitt with Blake’s eligibility & time to continue making Pitt a major basketball 🏀 school (stick it to Joe Lunardi)..

Arkansas and coach Cal now the front runner to land Thiero!!! It’s all about the money, not him wanting to come home, or for the love of Pitt, it’s all about who will pay him the most. That’s college sports today! I am not blaming the kid, if I were him I’d take as much as I could get to. Unfortunately the gap between the have’s and have not’s is growing wider, and Pitt is on the wrong end of it, hate to say. H2P!!!! It’s going to be a struggle moving forward.
