Kentucky Transfer Adou Thiero Passes on Pitt Again For Arkansas

Published

on

Adou Thiero is a guard for the University of Kentucky.

For the second time in his college recruitment, former Quaker Valley standout Adou Thiero has passed on an opportunity to stay home and play for Pitt.

This afternoon, Joe Tipton from On3 Sports was first to announce that Thiero has made the decision to join John Calipari at Arkansas.

Arkansas was a late entry for Thiero, as many recruiting experts were forecasting his recruitment coming down to Pitt and North Carolina. However, PSN has been told that Calipari and his staff were in Pittsburgh last week to visit with Thiero and his family. That visit, along with a with a pretty good NIL deal were the deciding factors.

Last weekend, optimism was high that following a weekend visit to Pitt that Thiero would make the decision to stay home and finish his college career at Pitt.

However, the first part of it came when Kentucky football transfer Jeremiah Anglin Jr. announced his commitment to Pitt, and it was followed by another Thiero Instagram story post with a caption that read “welcome 😂.” Again, read into it however you want, but it seemed a bit intriguing that Pitt was a top destination for Thiero and he was interacting with a fellow Kentucky transfer athlete who just landed with the Panthers as if he’s welcoming Anglin to his home.

What’s more, Thiero started following head coach Jeff Capel and guard Jaland Lowe on Instagram.

Thiero, a 6-foot-8 forward, entered to portal following the news of Kentucky head coach John Calipari leaving for Arkansas.

Since then, Thiero announced a top five that included a return to Kentucky, Pitt, North Carolina, Arkansas and Indiana.

In two seasons at Kentucky, Thiero played in 45 games, averaging five points per contest on 46.6 percent shooting, while grabbing 3.6 rebound per game.

According to 247 Sports, Thiero was ranked as a four-star prospect coming out of Quaker Valley in high school. As a transfer, he ranks as the 27th-best portal option with a 95 rating.

The Panthers still have two available scholarships with one seemingly headed to a wing that can shoot from 3-point range. That’s not something that Thiero would have helped with.

Just can’t compete with unlimited NIL $ at Arkansas. If he wouldn’t have gone there, they have almost the same at UNC.

He can lose to a team like Oakland again lol. Calipari is the ultimate slime ball and snake oil salesman. They can have another unknown division 2 player stick a few more 3 pointers in his face, too.

Maybe he’ll get there one day, but a 5 ppg player isnt going to make or break Pitt’s next couple seasons, I’d say.

Good luck living in Arkansas.. Hope it works out playing with Calipari again & you don’t get buried on the bench. NIL. is a losing proposition vs the big time donor schools. NCAA has zero clue on how to manage the transfer portal among all their other failures over the years. Take Care ADOU…
ps…. Hope PITT plays Arkansas in March Madness next year (if Calipari can have a winning record in the SEC)…. GO PITT🏀🏀🏀!!!

Tough to beat a cut throat cheater who built a false reputation as a good coach. He had two final fours vacated for probation at UMass and Memphis. Then he left Gohlke unguarded most of the first half against Oakland this year and he stuck 9 threes in their face. Lol. I have no idea why anyone would want to play for that clown. Him and the Antigua brothers. What a joke. The dude could not win a championship with Trey Lyles, Karl Anthony Townes, the Harrison brothers and Devin Booker!!! He paid these guys big time and he could… Read more »

This is a weird commitment. He wanted to leave the program and head coach for a new opportunity. But then turns around and commits to the same coach at a worse program. So this just seems he said fine I’ll take the money.

That is too bad that NIL money from Arkansas and Calipari is more important than a chance to be hometown hero and continue the resurgence of PITT basketball.
NIL is ruining the game because it is money over pride and loyalty. I would have liked to see Thiero in a PITT uniform but it didn’t happen.
I still believe that PITT has a special group with Lowe, Leggett, Cummings, Corhen, Dunn, Kante and the Graham twins! Hoping that Marlon Barnes can also step up in a big way.
HTP!

It’s not ruining the game for the players. It does desperately need structure.

Amazing to me the number of people getting their shorts in a bunch over a player who averaged 5ppg last year.

Let’s update this story by signing another portal wing or a shooting stud out of HS or the JUCO ranks that is still available with tons of college players still in the portal. A ‘splash’ signing would be nice to replace the loss of Adou again. Hope Calipari lives up to his promises. GO PITT🏀!!!
