PSN Poll: Do You Still Have Faith in Pat Narduzzi?

Published

on

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi claps after the Panthers score against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 in Blacksburg, Virginia. (Mitchell Northam / Pittsburgh Sports Now.)

All of the good will and momentum that the Pitt Panthers football program had gained over the last few years is quickly fading as this 2023 season spirals out of control.

Considering how he handled lineup decisions last season and with the first five games of 2023, head coach Pat Narduzzi is under fire from the fan base.

The argument can be made that Narduzzi’s success at Pitt was simply a byproduct of having star quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Considering the mess they have at quarterback and with their boring offensive system, this will not be an easy rebuild.

The question is do you still have faith in Pat Narduzzi or is it time for a new and fresh way of thinking?

Is this a trick question?

Narduzzi is simply a one trick pony, very under whelming as to offensive concepts and the whole offensive process in developing blocking schemes to match your two fold offense as to passing and running, so naturally he abdicates an important part of development to his offensive coordinator, no matter who it it.

Should also not give him a pass on defense, The side he watches 85% of the time gave up 200 yards rushing to an awful Va Tech team, and the Hokies held the ball for 15 more minutes. D is ok, but you can tell it’s starting to wear on them, bye week is a must. However, they don’t have the D of the past where it would just shut teams down. How is a small guy like McMillon gonna stay healthy when he’s making so many tackles (when a db leads the team in tackles it’s a huge problem)

He is here rent-free in our heads. He’ll get an on campus stadium at this rate, we would have a tough time paying for the lighting at Acrisure with the crowds we anticipate moving forward. Might as well play at CMU Tartans field or worse, Schenley high school on an afternoon with CW filming. McMillon is making a great deal of tackles because the middle linebacking play is not doing well. Why was there there four defenders wide on a 3rd and 10 leaving zero over with no QB spy. Smart play design by them and capitalized on a well… Read more »

We all know Pat is not a smart man. Just a simpleton with a smart mouth.

We all overlooked this while he won, but it’s clear he cannot adapt or make decisions to course-correct on this voyage.

Can’t wait for the FSU game…

We’ll somehow someway beat FSU or Notre Dame, but lose to Syracuse, Duke, or Boston-College. We seem to not play Louisville well. I am going to the Wake Forest game so hopefully we don’t stink it up.
Remember the 2016 team beat national champion Clemson and a good PSU team, but still somehow lost 5 games.
A few years ago Narduzzi considered himself still Undefeated with two losses saying we beat ourselves. How many losses do we have this season with that criteria?

I think he is a good coach and players like him. But listen and need to change. Stop filling starters from transfer portal. Recruit bette, much better. I miss years of picket, Addison, Wayne, Mack. He may lose a lot of players this year to the portal if no changes.

It is not necessary to change, survival is not mandatory.

Rushing the QB amplified the RPO and that is on our Defensive Coordinator. When Alabama played Arkansas last Season the DEs were ‘Coached’ not rush up-field more than 3-yards deep and keep the QB in the pocket to force him to throw.

Collectively it is not going their way. Interestingly enough a 1-3 Virginia Tech still sold out Lane stadium and they got excellent QB performance and Won the game. They could have folded when PITT scored twice in a row to narrow it to 7 like they did last season. They had a really big score on a crossing route where their QB stayed in there and delivered. They Won the game. Having a team 3rd and 19 and dialing up a six man blitz and not getting to the QB got PITT burned late. Schematically we got out witted and… Read more »

9-8 is not acceptable for true Steeler fans. He’s another one that picked a terrible OC.
Losing to a 1-3 VT and being able to only rush for 38 yards and 2 first downs is not acceptable either. Nor is letting a horrid offense like VT gain over 400 yards. D2 Old Dominion didn’t even give up 400 yards to VT. Neither did Marshall or Rutgers or Purdue. Not a high quality team in that group. But they were all better than Pitt.

Wow, nearly 100 fans still have confidence in Narduzzi…that’s about 100 more than I would have guessed. Not really sure what they see in him that I’m missing.

Nerdball (thank god he got rid of the dork glasses) hasn’t upped Pitt’s recruiting much since the ACC championship. Even though he had a Heisman finalist QB, has yet to recruit & sign & enroll a 4 star QB. He should have learned by now, you can’t win big without a top flight QB. Or with this archaic pro style offense.

I think Pat Narduzzi is a man with high integrity that runs an honest program. We have read multiple times recruits parents have walked away from recruiting trips with tears in their eyes after their emotional response to Pitt, Pat and his staff’s honesty in purpose. All of his behind the scenes support from the Pelussi life skills program, the Alliance 412 among others prepare young men to be outstanding citizens. Patents and recruits see this when visiting. This is a reflection of Pat Narduzzi. Listen to his current players and past players and you see humble, well spoken young… Read more »

His offense is old school 70s to 90s, grind it out with TE and FBs and setup the play action. Unfortunately the rules have changed to resemble video game football and this style isn’t nearly as effective. His best success came with Mr. Whipple (and getting lucky with a 6yr QB) but he didnt like it, I see him as a naive business owner living his dream doing what he wants instead of reading what the atmosphere calls for. Never ending denial that it’s not working.

I believe Duzz feels inadequate with offensive schemes so he has overcompensated by hiring resumes. A fresh younger OC from a smaller school would do (I believe) a better job. With the Steeler fans overboard on Canada, he might be soon available.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Narduzzi has taken Pitt as far as he is capable of taking the program. Now it’s the decline curve. I previously stuck up for him when people credited Pickett for the success Pitt had in 2021. People forgot Narduzzi was loyal and had faith in Pickett when Pickett struggled prior to 2021. When everyone else was calling for a QB change, Narduzzi stuck with him.

Well, that all goes out the window now because he’s also been loyal and has faith in Jurkovec. He’s just stubborn and loyal to a fault.
