Pitt Football Offers Top WPIAL Recruit in Class of 2026

What a last couple of weeks it’s been for Fort Cherry sophomore Matt Sieg.

The 6-foot, 170-pound multi-sport athlete received an offer from Penn State, which was his first Division I offer, back on Sept. 23. And it was followed up by Matt Rhule and Nebraska extending an offer Monday.

The exciting news continued on Tuesday afternoon as his third offer arrived from Pat Narduzzi and the Pitt Panthers. Dave Borbely gave him the news while making a visit to Fort Cherry High School Tuesday afternoon.

“These last couple of weeks have been crazy,” Sieg told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “My dreams are coming true. I’ve received offers from Pitt and Penn State, so those have been the two schools that I’ve grown up watching pretty much every game. I’m the biggest fan of those two programs. It’s been two weeks since I received my first offer (from Nebraska), so all of this has honestly been crazy. Plus, us getting that win over Canevin last Saturday was just icing on the cake.

“I went to a few camps over the summer and coaches told me that they liked me but wanted to see me play a few more games this season. So, because of that, I thought that some offers could be coming, but I didn’t know who and when. Regardless, I’m very, very thankful for all of this.”

The offer from Pitt was especially impactful as it came during an in-person talk with Borbely, the Panthers’ offensive line coach.

“Coach Borbs came into school and got me out of class,” Sieg said. “We sat down with our athletic director and my coaches. We started talking about the game last week, and then he surprised me by extending me the offer. They didn’t say what position they were offering me at. He said that we have a few more years to figure that all out and until then, keep balling.

“This offer from Pitt means a lot and is truly special. It really is. My parents, when I was little, I was probably five years old, they had Pitt season tickets. I’ve always been a big fan of them, and it’s crazy now that after being such a big of them, to have the opportunity to play on that same field possibly.”

He’s been immensely impressive this season, completing 31-of-48 pass attempts (64.6%) for 552 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception, and he’s added 25 carries for 474 yards (19.4 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

And he’s coming off a statement win over Bishop Canevin, throwing for 160 yards and three touchdowns and running for 277 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-41 win.

Sieg is a star quarterback and defensive back at Fort Cherry. Knowing that he still has plenty of time to decide, I asked him what position he sees himself playing in college.

“It’s too early to tell,” Sieg said. “I love playing both quarterback and safety. Penn State, they offered me as a safety. Pitt and Nebraska both offered me as an athlete. I just want to play whatever position will help the team win. I just love playing the game of football, it wouldn’t really matter to me.”

Sieg also told PSN that Pitt offered him an invite to the Louisville game and that he will be attending.

Yeah why not.How many QB’s in HS end up playing a dofferent position in college?Didn’t he just account for 7td’s against Canevin? There’s some talent there.

So you are suggesting the baller from Oil City is the 2024 RB PITT needs to target? Don’t buy into High-School statistics unless it is against 4A or Higher competition.

Would you like for me to name some ballers from 3A or lower who have done well in the past?Ty Law,Revis,Lamont Wade,Sean Gilbert,Derek Boncha,Lorenzo Styles,Derek Moye,Tyler Boyd..I can list many more.Just stumped at the moment lol..Not looking into stats.Just saying that the kid is an athlete at 15 yrs old.Lots of room to grow.Don’t have to play 4A and above to have talent

So, Pitt invited the kid to see the Louisville game…why? Are they trying to scare him off.
