Published

on

After bringing the Pitt basketball program back to national prominence, last year’s veteran Panthers — Nelly Cummings, Jamarius Burton, Nike Sibande, and Greg Elliott — are now beginning their respective professional careers.

Let’s check in on each of the former Panthers as they begin their seasons overseas.

NIKE SIBANDE – JOENSUUN KATAJA (FINLAND)

Sibande, the former ACC Sixth Man of the Year, has blown up early this season. In the first game of his season on Sept. 30, he hit a game-winning three to sink opponent Kobrat. Sibande exploded in that game for 36 points, also adding 13 rebounds and six assists in the double-double effort.

JAMARIUS BURTON – KORTRIJK SPURS (BELGIUM)

Burton has played two games for the Spurs, per Eurobasket. In those two games, he is currently averaging 11 points, three assists, and three rebounds per game. Burton is second on the team with 26 minutes per game and has shot 53% from the field so far.

Burton is playing alongside former Notre Dame forward Paul Atkinson as well as Virginia forward Jayden Gardner. The three ACC products are the three leading scorers on the team through two contests.

GREG ELLIOTT – SVENDBORG RABBITS (DENMARK)

Elliott’s team has played four games this season, and the former Pitt sharpshooter is playing a big role early on. Elliott is currently averaging 12 points and three rebounds per game, while shooting 41% from three-point range. All stats reported from Eurobasket.

NELLY CUMMINGS – AEL LIMASSOL BC (CYPRUS)

Cummings’ season has not started yet. AEL Limassol BC opens its season on Oct. 9.
