PITTSBURGH— The Westinghouse Bulldogs won their second straight City League title on Saturday, defeating the University Prep Wildcats 42-14.

University Prep’s defense kept things interesting to start, but the Bulldogs still managed to pull away in the second half with a strong rushing performance from junior quarterback Khalil Green.

University Prep received the opening kickoff and wasted no time scoring, going up 6-0 53 seconds in with a 38-yard touchdown connection from quarterback Max Qureshi to receiver Daniel Cain.

Westinghouse running back Ty Abrams broke into the secondary two drives later, putting the Bulldogs in the red zone with a 45-yard carry. Green finished the drive with a four-yard carry off the right end, and Taymir O’Neal ran in the two-point try to put the Bulldogs up 8-6.

After a three-and-out by the Wildcats, receiver Lloyd Penn put Westinghouse in plus territory with a 26-yard punt return. Westinghouse drove to the eight-yard line, but University Prep linebacker Xair Stevenson—who has an offer from Temple—came up with a sack on third down to blank the Bulldogs.

Stevenson keyed the Wildcats’ offense on the next drive. The junior reeled in a 41-yard pass, then put University Prep in the red zone after drawing a pass interference penalty.

The Wildcats couldn’t find the end zone, though, with Westinghouse coming up with a fourth-down stop on consecutive drives.

Westinghouse Pulls Away

Penn returned the second half kickoff for an 89-yard touchdown. Green ran up the middle on the two-point try to give Westinghouse a 16-6 lead.

After a three-and-out, Bulldogs’ defensive lineman Michael Richardson blocked a University Prep punt to put the Westinghouse offense inside the ten yard line. The Bulldogs couldn’t capitalize, though, turning the ball over on downs.

Westinghouse defensive lineman Josiah Collins recovered a fumble on a third-down screen pass on the ensuing Wildcats’ drive. Green scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, a three-yard carry, to put the Bulldogs up 22-6 soon thereafter.

Bulldogs’ cornerback Kyshawn Robinson snagged an interception at the three-yard line early in the fourth quarter, keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone. The standout sophomore returned it 67 yards, but the Bulldogs’ offense couldn’t add to the lead.

Green increased the Bulldogs’ lead to 36-6 in the fourth quarter with touchdown runs of 61 and 18 yards as the game blew wide open.

Cain scored for University Prep on a 93-yard kickoff return, and Qureshi found Marquis Glass-Jones on the two point try to close the deficit to 36-14 with just over four minutes to play.

Richardson cashed in on offense with a 52-yard touchdown to put the game on ice, 42-14.

After securing the City League crown, Westinghouse will continue into the state playoffs.
