Carlton Carrington Pitt basketball recruiting

Ahead of the 2023-24 season, PSN will be introducing every Pitt player and updating each player’s current situation on the roster. We continue our breakdowns with a freshman from Baltimore, Maryland.

Carlton “Bub” Carrington III

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Height, Weight: 6’5, 190 LBs

Position: Guard

Number: 7

Year: Freshman

Last year: Carrington starred for St. Frances Academy, a team with at least three Division One prospects, last year. He averaged 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists per game in his final year of high-school ball, leading the team to a 29-11 record.

Carrington earned several different personal awards throughout his senior campaign, earning MVP honors at the following events: DTLR Classic, Jumpman Classic, St. James MLK Classic, R1A Classic, and the More than Basketball game. He finished the year ranked as the No. 91 prospect in the class of 2023.

The storyline: Carrington’s scoring ability has wowed scouts and coaches for years throughout his high school career. He has a confident handle, a lethal pull-up mid-range game, and can shoot it from outside as well. Carrington has great length and grew up to 6-foot-5 heading into his freshman season. With his ability to handle the ball and set up teammates as well as his deep bag of tricks scoring-wise, Carrington seems to be one of this team’s top candidates to play pro ball soon.

Baltimore Elite: A Family’s Full-Circle Journey to Pitt

We’ll have to see how he does with a big role as a rookie, as there will certainly be teaching moments. However, he seems ready for his big role with the Panthers. Look for Carrington to play major minutes in the back court along with Ishmael Leggett and Jaland Lowe. Many have predicted Carrington to start at the point guard spot, and we very well may see him there in game one of the year.

In his teammate’s words (Leggett on Carrington and Lowe): “First and foremost, the work they put in, it shows on the court, for sure,” Leggett said about the freshmen. “I couldn’t be more proud of these guys. Just the way they are sponges. Anything you have to say, good or bad, they’re willing to hear it. I think this year, you guys are going to see that they’re a special pair of freshmen, for sure. Skill level, I mean, my freshman year, I can only speak to myself, I was not at their skill level. I give them praise all the time and I just try and push them each and every day to exceed the expectations of ‘Oh man, they’re too young. Oh man, they don’t have any experience.’ I see these guys. I go against them every day, and they’re special for sure. I’m watching, I’m proud of these guys every day and I hope that this year you guys definitely get to see what we’ve been cooking up.”

In his own words: “I feel like these guys are my brothers and I’ve known them for a couple of months,” Carrington said about Pitt’s team. “I feel like we definitely mesh well. Getting to know each other not just on the court but off the court will help us win a lot of games this year.”
