It’s been a memorable high school football season for Greater Latrobe junior linebacker Alex Tatsch.

On the field, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker led his Latrobe team in tackles, sacks and interceptions. When you’re able to put out that sort of tape, colleges will take note and they certainly have with Tatsch.

Prior to this season, Tatsch held offers from UConn and Marshall, but that’s changed dramatically over the last two months as he’s picked up offers from West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Liberty, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Pitt, Duke, Penn State and Maryland.

Friday morning, Tatsch received more big recruiting news as Rivals elevated him to a four-star recruit. Tatsch becomes the fourth WPIAL junior to earn four-star status, joining Aliquippa running back Tiqwai Hayes, North Catholic tight end Brady O’Hara and Imani Christian linebacker Dayshaun Burnett.

Rivals has given him a 5.8 Rivals Rating, signifying his four-star status, and it’s only a matter of time before 247Sports and On3 follow suit with ratings.

In terms of his style of play, Tatsch is the prototypical linebacker, who excels at reading the play and stuffing the run. One linebacker that Tatsch watches in order to improve his game is San Francisco’s Fred Warner, who made the Pro Bowl and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2022.

“I think I read the opposing offenses well,” Tatsch said. “I came down hard. A lot of the colleges that are recruiting me, say they like the length that I have and say that they see a frame that they can build on. I believe that I can cover well, too.”

Being that he’s only a junior and a majority of these offers have arrived recently, he said that he’s still taking the recruiting process in and is going to be patient before making any sort of college decision.

“I’m still not certain about what school I might choose and decide to go to,” Tatsch said. “After the season is over, I’m going to really start to try and figure things out. Hopefully, by next summer, I’ll have some idea of where I’ll end up.”

During this college season, Tatsch has made Gameday visits to Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Dude’s tackles are nasty, reminds me of Dan Connor. He’ll be highly pursued by many, good for him.
