WEXFORD, Pa. — Aliquippa football is great once again in 2023, and senior linebacker/tight end Cameron Lindsey is playing a major role in their quest for another WPIAL and PIAA title.

Lindsey had a fantastic game against Mars in the 47-24 win in the WPIAL 4A Semifinal in a downpour at Newman Stadium Friday night. He showed his athleticism on offense, catching a 24-yard pass from senior quarterback Quentin Goode to give his team the lead, which they never relinquished, and then scoring a four-yard rushing touchdown to increase their lead. He also led the Aliquippa defense to allow just 10 points to ensure the mercy rule, with Mars scoring two touchdowns late against the second team.

“It’s great,” Lindsey said on the win. “That’s one step of our accomplishment of trying to get back to a state championship. It’s baby steps, one step at a time, but being here is a start but it all starts on Monday.”

Despite earning recognition mostly as a linebacker, Cameron Lindsey is also a proficient tight end. He has the size, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, to play the position and the necessary skills as well, such as great hands, quickness and strength to throw off most defensive players.

“I’m an athlete, but it’s just doing whatever my team needs me to win,” Lindsey said on playing tight end. “That’s just something that coach Mike [Warfield] explained to me and I just go out there and do it so we can hold a championship at the end of the year.”

Lindsey will join Pitt Football next season, as he committed back in June, to play linebacker. 247Sports rates him as a three-star, No. 44 at his position and No. 12 in Pennsylvania in his class, respectively, while Rivals rates him as a four-star, No. 23 at his position and No. 12 in the state in his class, respectively.

He has kept in touch with Panthers linebackers coach Ryan Manalac. He said that Manalac has enjoyed what he has seen so far from his game and that he just needs to stay consistent and true to himself.

“It’s been great,” Lindsey said on his relationship with Manalac. “He checking up on me every week before the games. Just talking to me and we’ve been in close contact ever since I committed.”

The three freshmen linebackers that came in the Pitt Class of 2023 have all played in a variety of roles this season. Leechburg alum Braylan Lovelace has played at the money linebacker role and in 10 games, Jordan Bass plays on both defense and special teams and Rasheem Biles has excelled on special teams, blocking two punts and helping Pitt lead the nation with three blocked punts in 2023.

With all of these players seeing time on the field and not redshirting, Lindsey also has a good chance to make an impact as a freshman next season.

“That’s definitely the goal, but I’m not going to rush it,” Lindsey said. “If it happens, then I just got to be ready for the moment, but hopefully I can get there and make an impact.”

Aliquippa faces No. 2 McKeesport in the WPIAL 4A Championship Game at Acrisure Stadium this Friday at 8 p.m. This is their 16th straight season making a WPIAL Championship Game, of which they have won the past two and three since head coach Mike Warfield took over in 2018.

Warfield and Lindsey share a great bond as head coach and a leader on defense. While Lindsey has won most of his games with the program, Warfield still pushes him to go beyond what he is currently capable of to become the best version of himself, on and off the field.

“It’s been great,” Cameron Lindsey said. “Every day he’s pushing us to be better. Even in practice whenever we feel like we’re better than the team, he still makes us practice like we’re competing for a state championship. Not only me, but on all of us. Just making sure we’re on our game.”
