Pitt has a clear need to add linebackers to their 2024 roster and are attempting to do something about that.
This morning, the Panthers extended an offer to a recent entry that’s receiving plenty of interest from Power Five programs. Youngstown State transfer Alex Howard announced this morning that he’s received an offer from Pitt.

The 6’2″, 230-pound native of Cincinnati, Ohio was the Penguins top linebacker this past season, collecting 67 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 interception. Howard has gotten noticeably better in his three seasons with Youngstown, as he arrived as just a special team’s contributor and eventually turning into their top defensive player.
Along with Pitt, Howard has received offers from West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Liberty and Michigan State.
Howard has one year of eligibility remaining.
Since the end of the season, Ryan Manalac’s unit has lost Shayne Simon (graduation), Brandon George (transfer), Bangally Kamara (transfer) and Aydin Henningham (transfer). Solomon DeShields is the only player returning that has extensive on-field experience. Although there’s a ton of youth, Pitt has young talent with Jordan Bass, Braylon Lovelace, Kyle Louis, Rasheem Biles along with incoming recruits Cam Lindsey and Davin Brewton.
Look for Pitt to add more than one transfer linebacker this offseason.
