Pitt tight end target Jake Overman.

Pitt will be hosting a few high school recruits over the next couple of weekends ahead of National Signing Day, and a transfer portal tight end will be in town, too.

Oregon State transfer Jake Overman, a 6-foot-4, 245-pounder from Yorba Linda, Cal., will be taking an official visit to Pittsburgh this weekend.

“I will be taking an official visit to the University of Pittsburgh this weekend,” Overman wrote on Twitter. “I’m fired up to see all that Pitt football has to offer.”

Overman was originally a three-star recruit out of Servite High, and he signed with Oregon State in the class of 2020 over offers from Arizona, Boise State, California, Colorado, Fresno State, Kansas, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington and Yale.

He took a backseat in 2023, taking just 56 offensive snaps, and he didn’t record any offensive statistics, but he served as a key inline blocker in 2022 — basically serving as a sixth lineman. And he added seven receptions for 51 yards.

In four seasons at Oregon State, redshirting in his second season, he’s caught eight passes for 70 yards. And he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Gavin Bartholomew’s return, along with Karter Johnson, paves the way for what should be a productive tight ends room for the new offensive coordinator and whoever is playing quarterback at Pitt next season.

After a season in which many thought Bartholomew would not return to Pitt for his final season, his return is a massive win for the coaching staff and the Panthers’ NIL efforts. And with Bartholomew, Johnson, Jake Renda and Cole Mitchell, there’s a solid foundation.

Overman would add an experienced blocking tight end to the mix, who will have a couple of seasons of eligibility remaining. As it stands, Pitt does not have a tight end committed to the class of 2024.
