Archie Collins’ cornerbacks’ room will be young in 2024 as the multi-season starting trio of M.J. Devonshire (likely), Marquis Williams and A.J. Woods will be trying to make the NFL.

Collins will be active in searching the transfer portal for a veteran defensive back to help lead the room going forward, and he extended an offer to a productive Oregon defensive back.

Pitt extended an offer to Trikweze Bridges, a rising senior defensive back from Lanett, Alabama, since he entered the transfer portal this month, according to a report from 247Sports’ Clint Brewster.

Florida, Kentucky, Temple, Houston, Washington, Vanderbilt and Baylor have also extended offers.

Bridges (6-foot-3, 198 pounds) played in all 13 games for the Ducks in 2023, but after an All-Pac-12 third-team nod in 2022, he took more of a backseat last season as a reserve cornerback.

He took 205 defensive snaps in 2023, recording 16 tackles (seven solo), 0.5 tackles for loss and three pass breakups. According to PFF, he allowed 13 receptions for 167 yards on 23 targets from opposing quarterbacks.

He was a major piece of the Ducks’ defense in 2022, taking over 700 snaps as a starting cornerback, and he racked up 49 tackles (30 solo), one tackle for loss, three interceptions, five pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Bridges, who has had success at the collegiate level and has two seasons of eligibility remaining, will receive his fair share of offers from schools looking for cornerback help.

Pitt will likely be forced to turn to all new cornerbacks in 2024, with Ryland Gandy receiving extra snaps in the last couple of 2023 and Tamarion Crumpley and Noah Biglow expected to complement him.

The safety trio of Javon McIntyre, Donovan McMillon and P.J. O’Brien Jr. provides excellent coverage on the backend, but the cornerbacks could use a veteran presence to help integrate the young, inexperienced corners.
