Friday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Devils-Blue Jackets, Suns-Pelicans, Indiana-Wisconsin

What a week we are having with the Winning Picks! For the 4th straight day, we went 3-0 on our picks. That’s 12 wins in a row since Monday. Just incredible. The Minnesota Golden Gophers had an amazing cover despite not scoring from the field for the last 5 minutes of the game. They are 15-3 against the spread this season, keep that for your records. The under was able to cover in the Kraken/Oilers game and the Timberwolves went on to cover against Memphis. We move to 111-77-3 on the year.

Since we will have a huge day of sports to get into tomorrow, I wanna take a look at UFC 297, taking place tomorrow night in Montreal. The main event is Sean Strickland putting his Middleweight title on the line against Dricus Du Plessis. Strickland pulled one of the biggest upsets in UFC history when he beat Israel Adesanya back in September. Now, it is the outspoken Strickland that is the hunted and not the hunter.

Du Plessis has been flying up the ranks since joining the UFC. He is 6-0 since his first fight in the UFC in October 2020. Now he gets his first title fight with the promotion. Checking the odds, this fight is considered a toss up based on the line on ESPN BET. It is very rare for a champion in the UFC to lose their first title defense, but the South African Du Plessis can do it. Expect a hard hitting fight either way.

Now time for the Winning Picks!

New Jersey Devils (-155) at Columbus Blue Jackets O/U 6.5 7:00 PM on ESPN+

After a great start to the season, the New Jersey Devils have fallen on hard times recently. Sitting in a playoff spot for most of the year, they have fallen to second to last in the Metro standings, just in front of the team they will face tonight, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Devils fans like Frank the Tank of Barstool Sports have already written this team off. And Frank might be onto something.

New Jersey has lost 4 of their last 5 games. They are in the midst of the first leg of a back-to-back tonight, heading back home tomorrow night to face the Dallas Stars. Could the Devils be looking ahead of the lowly Blue Jackets to Saturday night’s affair with a team formerly coached by current New Jersey coach Lindy Ruff?

My guess is they will be. The Winning Pick for this game will be Columbus to pull the upset tonight against the Devils at home.

Phoenix Suns at New Orleans Pelicans (-2.5) O/U 237.5 8:00 PM

When you look at the Phoenix Suns on paper, they should be one of the top teams in the NBA. Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker are some of the top scorers in the league. Surely they should be one of the top three seeds in the West right now? Unfortunately, they sit in the 8th spot and behind the New Orleans Pelicans who are in 5th place.

So why are the Suns struggling? One thing is injuries. All three stars have missed time at some point throughout the season. The other reason being they are a very top heavy team with little scoring and versatility off the bench. This can be a killer for any NBA team no matter the star power they have in the starting lineup.

The Pelicans are a much more balanced and complete team than the Suns are right now. I believe it shows tonight and New Orleans picks up the win and cover.

Indiana Hoosiers at Wisconsin Badgers (-11.5) O/U 139.5 8:30 PM on FS1

The Hoosiers of Indiana look to keep pace in the Big Ten tonight when they face current conference leader the Wisconsin Badger. This is a major game for the Hoosiers, who yet to have a marquee win this season. Will tonight be the night that Indiana gets that win?

My thinking is no. The Hoosiers have struggled away from home and haven’t played close with any of the top teams in college basketball outside of a 4 point home loss to Kansas. Wisconsin looks to be back to playing the same high level of basketball they played under Bo Ryan. Greg Gard has done a great job.

As for tonight’s game, I believe the Badger will roll to a win and cover versus the overmatched Hoosiers.
