Saturday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Duquesne-St. Bonaventure, North Carolina-Miami, Penguins-Jets

Published

on

Another great night for the Winning Picks, finishing 2-1. In Fleury’s last game against the Penguins, he was able to lift the Wild to victory and cashed our bet. Despite Tyrese Maxey being a late scratch for Philadelphia, the over was able to cover in Hawks/76ers. Dayton could not cover as they lost by 2 to VCU in a game that failed to reach the 100-point mark. We moved to 142-107-3 on the year.

We finally get the big game tomorrow in Vegas but we also get some big games today in college basketball as 8 ranked teams face unranked opponents on the road. On top of that, we get a Big 12 Top 15 clash between Baylor and Kansas while a Gonzaga team looking to keep their NCAA Tournament streak alive gets a chance for a resume building win as they travel to Lexington to face Kentucky in a non-conference game. Strange for Coach Cal to schedule a team like the Bulldogs in the middle of February.

For those two games, I like Kansas to cover and Gonzaga to cover as an underdog. The Bulldogs are fighting for their lives right now to make the tournament if they don’t win the WCC; Mark Fews’ squad will be ready. As for some of these other great matchups, As for those other matchups, I like Michigan St to cover at home against #10 Illinois and Colorado to cover at home against #8 Arizona. Both home teams are favorites.

Now time for the Winning Picks!

Duquesne Dukes at St. Bonaventure Bonnies (-5.5) O/U 138.5 2:00 PM on ESPNU

Predicted to be one of the top teams in the A-10 this season, Duquesne finds themselves looking up at the top sitting in 12th place. The Dukes had been playing better as of late before they ran into a brick wall in Davidson who beat them by 12 on Wednesday at home. Now the Dukes will get a chance to sweep the season series vs the Bonnies as they travel to New York Saturday afternoon.

In their first matchup last month, the Dukes put the Bonnies in a straight jacket, holding them to a season low 50 points in a 4 point win for Duquesne. There should be a bit more points in this game today, but I don’t think much more. The under is currently 15-6 in Duquesne games this year and 9-1 in the last 10 games. That trend continues today and the under cashes.

Under 138.5 Covers, Duquesne Dukes 60  St. Bonaventure Bonnies 65

North Carolina Tar Heels (-3.5) at Miami Hurricanes O/U 159.5 4:00 PM on ESPN

Two teams in need of a bounce back clash in South Beach as the Hurricanes host the Tar Heels. Miami suffered one of their most embarrassing defeats in program history as they were held to a record low 38 points in a loss at Virginia. North Carolina was able to upend Duke last Saturday but that has been sandwiched in between a loss on the road to Georgia Tech and a loss at home this week to Clemson.

Something has to give today for both teams. A loss for the Tar Heels today could knock them off a #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament. The Hurricanes desperately need a Quad 1 win to help their resume to even have a chance to make the tournament. Though Miami will fight like hell for this win, I like North Carolina to get back on track and win today, covering in the process.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Winnipeg Jets (-150) O/U 5.5 8:00 PM on SportsNet Pittsburgh

The Penguins will need to shake off the emotions from last night’s loss to Fleury and the Wild as they head north to Canada to face the Jets for the second time this week. Tristan Jarry will get another crack at Winnipeg after shutting out the Jets on Tuesday. Jarry, like most seasons, has been up and down this year for the Pens. But when you look at his stats, it is really apparent.

The former All Star is 14-14-4 on the season with a league high 6 shutouts. That doesn’t make any sense. You have over a 55% chance to see a Penguins loss in regulation or overtime when Jarry starts but you also have a near 20% chance to see him shut out an opponent. So in 75% of the games he starts, you can expect the Pens to lose or get a shutout. So weird.

As for tonight, I don’t expect another shutout by Jarry but I do see a low scoring game. Connor Hellebuyck should have a better performance than Tuesday against the Penguins. I like the under to cover tonight in Winnipeg.

Under 5.5 Covers, Pittsburgh Penguins 1  Winnipeg Jets 2
