Pitt Basketball Included in NIT Bracket Prediction

Pitt fans are all wondering the same thing at this time of year: Are the Panthers going to play postseason basketball this year?

While we won’t know the answer to that just yet, we do have more and more bracket predictions coming out now — for both the NCAA Tournament and the NIT. On Monday, the Panthers were included in a bracket prediction — not for the NCAA Tournament, but for the NIT.

In NITBracketology.com’s latest prediction, Pitt was listed as a No. 4 seed in the same region as No. 1 seed Villanova, No. 2 Kansas State, and No. 3 Memphis. Rutgers, Princeton, Georgia, and Minnesota were also listed in the region.

Fellow ACC teams Virginia Tech, NC State, Syracuse, and Miami joined Pitt in the projected field. Florida State was listed as “seriously considered,” while Boston College was listed as “next tier.”

Duquesne was named in the preview as “probably CBI bound.”

Pitt currently ranks No. 59 in the ever-important NET rankings. The Panthers are 1-5 in Quad 1 games, 2-1 in Quad 2 games, 6-2 in Quad 3 games, and 6-0 in Quad 4 games. Pitt’s worst losses have come to Missouri at home, Syracuse at home, and Syracuse, again, on the road at the JMA Wireless Dome. Pitt’s best win came on the road at No. 7 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
