Tuesday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Pitt-Virginia, Duquesne-Dayton, Hurricanes-Stars
What a great night for the Winning Picks Monday night going 3-0. There was no Super Bowl hangover to be found. The under Kraken/Devils and over in Bulls/Hawks both covered with ease. TCU was able to take care of a WVU team that wants the season to be over, covering in the process. We moved to 148-110-3 on the year, a 56%-win percentage.
Now you might be thinking that you will have no football to bet on until August when the dreaded preseason NFL lines are out there to bet since everyone is itching to bet on some football. But you won’t have to wait that long because we get the new United Football League at the end of March/beginning of April. This league will be a combination of 4 teams from the XFL and 4 teams from the USFL. Sorry to you Pittsburgh Maulers fans, they did not make the cut for the new league.
But there is one UFL team from the USFL to keep an eye on and bet to win the league once those odds are released. That is the Birmingham Stallions. Winners of both seasons in the USFL, they pretty much bring back the best players on their roster plus their head coach Skip Holtz. This is particularly unheard of for these smaller leagues, especially when they are bringing up key players like QB J’Mar Smith, LB Scooby Wright, WR Victor Bolden and former Alabama RB Bo Scarbrough.
The Stallions will more than likely be the top favorite when these odds are released, probably +300 odds. Even at that price, Birmingham is a good bet to continue their dominance of Spring Football.

Pittsburgh Panthers at Virginia Cavaliers (-6.5) O/U 121.5 7:00 PM on ACC Network
It has been a while since I have gone back and forth on a game like Pitt and Virginia. Coming into today, I was all in on betting the Cavaliers to cover in this game, but now I have changed my tune a bit. Mainly due to Pitt’s decent success against Virginia.
In their last 5 games against the Cavs, the Panthers are 3-1-1 against the spread, winning outright in their meeting last year in Oakland. Now I don’t project Pitt to win this game outright tonight, I do have faith in them covering the spread tonight. Blake Hinson will need to have one of his better games of the year like he did against Duke for that to happen and I think it will.

Duquesne Dukes at Dayton Flyers (-8.5) O/U 134.5 7:00 PM on ESPN+
Last time these two teams met, Dayton completely embarrassed Duquesne in probably what was the biggest home game the Dukes have had in decades. Now, the Dukes will look to return the favor as they head out to western Ohio to face the Flyers.
Duquesne was able to pick up a much-needed conference win on the road at St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Dayton lost by 2 to VCU in a game that did not reach 100 combined points on Friday night. I believe we will see a bit more offense from Dayton but not by much. As long as free throws at the end don’t get in the way, the under covers tonight in Dayton.

Carolina Hurricanes at Dallas Stars (-120) O/U 6.5 8:00 PM on ESPN+
If ESPN started broadcasting more games on regular ESPN, this would be a great game to broadcast tonight as two top teams in each conference clash as Carolina visits Dallas to face the Stars. The Hurricanes trail the Rangers by 6 points for the top spot in the Metro division while the Stars hold a 2-point edge on the Avalanche for first place in the Central.
Both of these teams are pretty evenly matched but there is one edge that Dallas does have against Carolina. The Stars are currently 16-8-2 at home this year while the Hurricanes are only 13-10-1 on the road. With that being said, I like Dallas to get a big win tonight and hold onto the top spot in the Central.
