Pitt has filled one of its two major assistant coaching vacancies.

The Pitt football program announced the hiring of Tim Daoust as its next defensive line coach to replace Charlie Partridge, who left the program to take the same position with the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. He will not serve as the Pitt special teams coordinator with the Panthers, with the position held by new tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski.

The 45-year-old Daoust was last with East Carolina as its special teams coordinator and defensive ends/outside linebackers coach. Daoust has 21 years of Division I coaching experience, which includes stops at Cincinnati and Northern Illinois — working with Pat Narduzzi. He’s also worked at Central Michigan, Illinois State, Ball State, Western Michigan, Sam Houston and Syracuse. While at Syracuse, he was promoted to assistant head coach.

“Tim and I have known each other for years, and he’s an incredibly impressive person and coach,” Narduzzi said in the Pitt release. “He has coached everything on defense and is a tremendously effective teacher and evaluator. From a personal standpoint, he is a great family man and values developing relationships. I’m really excited about bringing him to Pitt, and I know our players and staff will really enjoy working with him.”

Daoust has a track record of developing his players and defensive production. Last season with East Carolina, the Pirates collected the 17th-most tackles for loss in FBS last season (seven per game). East Carolina also finished in the top 30 nationally in rushing defense in each of the last two seasons — finishing 18th in 2022 and 29th in 2023.

In his two seasons at Sam Houston State (2018-19), the Bearkats led the FCS in rush defense (69.9 yards/game), opponent third-down conversation rate (27.9%) and tackles for loss (10.9/game).

Daoust is a native of Toledo, Ohio and played football at Wittenburg (D-III) from 1998-2001, serving as a two-time team captain.

Any information on how well he can recruit? Partidge’s recruiting prowess is just as important to replace as his D-line coaching skills. Especially in South Florida

Good luck to him. It’s impossible to duplicate a Charlie Partridge but I’m sure he’ll create his own successful legacy at Pitt.

Awesome, now if Narduzzi and Kade Bell hire the WR Coach from NC Central U. we’ll have directional North Carolina covered but still not be able to out recruit Mack in Charlotte.

Well, that’s what we will find out. There is a possibility a major university football program considers that pre hire.
Regardless, as much as I mistrust Pat on offense I trust him completely on defense. H2P
