The trip to Pittsburgh came a month after Mason Heintschel received his first Power 4 offer from the Panthers.

“The visit was awesome,” he told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “The entire staff was very welcoming right from the get-go, and I really enjoyed my time.”

Heintschel joined a crop of important recruits that visited Pitt on Friday as the group checked out what the program has to offer took in Spring Practice action.

“We got to tour the facilities and campus for a little while, which was really great to see, and then got to watch practice. Practice was really intense and was very fun to be around,” Heintschel said.

While walking through the South Side facility, it was hard to miss the coexistence of Pitt and the professional team in the city for Heintschel.

“The biggest thing that stands out with Pitt is the fact that they are so connected with the Steelers. I got that vibe even with my first time being there that it was a very professional way they do things there and there’s something to be said for that,” Heintschel said.

Since Pitt commenced its recruiting efforts of the 6-foot-2 quarterback, he feels the relationship has strongly developed.

“The relationship we’ve been able to build over the past couple of months has definitely been something that has made this process very enjoyable,” Heintschel said. “Especially with a lot of the new staff they’ve brough in, it’s been great to get to connect with them and meet with all the new coaches and continue building a strong bond.”

In his junior season, Heintschel amassed 3,080 total yards and 33 total touchdowns. He feels his game resembles that of the current style of play that teams look for.

“My game has a lot to do with my ability to improvise and do things off script. I think I’m able to make plays with my arm, but also with my feet, and that’s a big thing in today’s game for quarterbacks.”

Heintschel acknowledges that Pitt is one of the top schools on his list right now. He also holds offers from Toledo, Coastal Carolina, Ohio Liberty, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Kent State and Akron.
