WASHINGTON, D.C. – The ACC is performing better in the NCAA Tournament than given credit for. At least considering the inordinate amount of conference teams on the bubble or out of consideration.
Virginia writer Danny Neckel pointed to a number that significantly benefits the ACC when examining “performance against seed expectations” in the last 10 tourneys.
The ACC grades the best by a considerable margin compared to the other five major conferences. The conference ranks 6.4 points higher than the next closest conference (SEC) with an 11.6 grade.
Bringing up the rear are the Big East (-2.2) and Big 12 (-13.8) in underwhelming expectations set by how high their conference teams have been seeded in the NCAA Tournament.
North Carolina going to the National Championship against Kansas as a No. 8 seed and Pitt winning two games in the NCAA Tournament last season as a First Four team. Dating back to the 2023 tournament, an ACC team has won four times.
Louisville – 2013
Duke – 2015
North Carolina – 2017
Virginia – 2019
North Carolina was also runners up in 2016. Bracketologists believe Pitt still has work to do before clinching a bid in the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Pitt in his Next Four Out, while Fox’s Mike DeCourcy has Pitt in the First Four Out.
Past performance is not indicative of future results.
….does not guarantee, but certainly can be indicative….
Too many variables, for me to look backwards.
Absolutely. Stupid article
for me the one variable that they supposedly are not giving any consideration is how a team performed at the end of the season which, again supposedly, was a factor in year’s past
with today’s CBB transfer situation there’s reason to give it more weight than less or none now!
