It didn’t take long for the Pitt basketball staff to schedule a visit for a player that it is pursuing in the transfer portal.

According to Joe Tipton, the Panthers have scheduled a visit for April 12 with Brandon Johnson, a 6-foot-8 forward out of East Carolina. Tipton also reported that Johnson will visit Miami on the 1st of the month.

Johnson averaged 14 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this season, shooting a career-bests 37% from three-point range on 5.7 attempts per game. He scored a season high 30 points against UTSA this year. Johnson was scorching hot from three-point range in that game, hitting 7 of his 11 three-point attempts.

Johnson had the following stat lines against high major opponents this season:

VS. SOUTH CAROLINA: 38 minutes, 3-9 shooting. 2-6 3FG, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 10 points.

VS. FLORIDA: 34 minutes, 4-6 shooting, 3-5 3FG, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 12 points.

Track all of Pitt’s transfer portal recruiting activity this offseason over at The Portal Report’s new fan transfer portal tracker. The staff has already reached out to at least four players, including Johnson, and will surely be targeting more transfers as the portal continues to fill up. Interesting…how diff is his game from Austin’s? Roughly similar stats to Zack’s high pt numbers.

Slotting a replacement for Blake is a TALL order. The twins and Kante should suffice at the five spot. If NIL doesn’t poach the guards, that will be the teams strength next year. Austin provides an option.
The experts have shown their complete worthlessness. The SEC contingent have been savaged and the Big Ten can’t brag. This weekend could be a big one for the ACC.

Haha. Guillermo is obviously not a 5 and Jorge isn’t even an ACC player. Have you looked at them? And who knows what Kante can provide? Replacing Blake and finding a defensive presence/rebounding force at the five are both priorities for the staff this portal season.

Beginning to believe Fed and Jeffress were shown the door. With the transfer portal, upgrading a position is plug and play.

He’ll be going to Miami. Larranaga vs Capel. Mismatch in Coaching ability
