MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — On Thursday night, Robert Morris’ women’s basketball team took on Northern Kentucky in the Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Colonials jumped out to an early 9-6 lead behind an early three pointer form Raissa Nsabua. Guard Noa Givon also contributed early, making a deep two off the dribble, late in the shot clock. However, after taking a 9-6 lead, out of a timeout, NKU stormed back with a 7-0 run. The Colonials ended the run with a Danielle Vuletich layup, and the two teams were off to the races in an intense battle.

In the second quarter, the Colonials created some separation. RMU’s defense turned up the intensity early, and continued to find buckets offensively. Givon continued to provide scoring hitting four of five shots to catch fire. Behind Givon’s early nine points, the Colonials built up a 32-23 lead.

The Colonials kept the pressure on early in the second half, too. With less than seven minutes remaining in the third, Jada Lee hit a huge three, sending the crowd into a frenzy and giving the Colonials a ten-point advantage. However, Northern Kentucky would not quite give up just yet. NKU’s Halle Idowu drained a three pointer of her own to answer, cutting the deficit to just seven.

Once again, Givon and the Colonials responded. Leading by 11, Givon stepped through the lane in a smooth move for a left-handed layup, extending the lead up to 13. The Colonials remained in control, and by the eight-minute mark in the fourth quarter, they had maintained a 14-point lead.

In the next few minutes, Northern Kentucky put more pressure on the Colonials. After Idowu hit a three pointer, Macey Blevins converted a three-point play the old-fashioned way, cutting RMU’s lead down to eight. Again, RMU answered the bell and regained control of the game.

The Colonials took home the win, 70-57, behind Givon — who finished with 23 points and 1 turnover — and Mya Murray, who added 11 points.

With the win, RMU improved to 15-15 on the season and 11-10 in Horizon League play.

The Horizon League Tournament Semifinals will be played on Monday, March 10 in Indianapolis.
