With two open scholarships, Jeff Capel continues to work to improve the talent for his 2022-23 roster.
Per a report from Jake Weingarten from Stockrisers.com, transfer guard Cashius McNeilly just completed an official visit to Pitt.
McNeilly was a 4-star shooting guard from Ontario, Canada in the Class of 2019. He originally committed to Texas A&M coming out of high school. After redshirting his freshman season due to an injury and then opting to sit out last season because of COVID. McNeilly then made the decision to transfer to TCU and followed his uncle, Jamie McNeilly, who was an assistant coach at Texas A&M but left to join Jamie Dixon and TCU.
However, before the fall semester started, McNeilly decided TCU wasn’t for him and is currently attending Northern Oklahoma College (JUCO). Following his season, McNeilly committed to Danny Manning and Maryland but once he was let go, McNeilly opened back up his recruitment in April.
McNeilly (6’4″) will have three years of athletic eligibility remaining. That would be big for Pitt because they will be graduating most of their backcourt following this season.
Capel has added shooters to this season’s roster, and he would be adding another one with McNeilly, who’s known as an elite three-point shooter.
Last month, Pitt also hosted Weber State transfer guard Seikou Sisoho Jawara on an official visit. Like McNeilly, Jawara is a skilled shooter from the perimeter.
This guy has been to three schools already. Yikes.
If Capel really wants to build a foundation for this program (remember his “brick by brick” novelty?) this isn’t the type of player to do it with.
Capel and his staff are grasping at straws at this point.
Read it again. Bad luck with fired coaches. He’s playing for the coach, not dear old U. And on this period of NIL, no one is immune to the money. You’re living in the past.
The football team lost 3 LBs to NIL.
Adapt or die.
Yeah, Pitt basketball’s problem is due to the NIL situation! Not thaw fact that Crapel has not met ANY reasonable expectations.
Did Jamie get fired? I guess I missed that. Wait, he has a top 25 team coming in. We will see how big a “get” this well traveled 10ppg Juco guy is. More nonsense deflection from the apologist crew
