Saturday could have been a precursor to what’s in store when the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament begins in less than a month.
One thing is for sure, the unpredictability definitely benefited Jeff Capel and the Pitt basketball program. Whenever you’re a team on the bubble, you need help in order to receive a bid to the tournament and Pitt no doubt received a ton of help on Saturday.
Let’s be clear, the Panthers still need a lot of things to happen in order to qualify for the tournament again but yesterday was surely a good start.
Here were the Bubble Teams that took a loss, which helped get Pitt back into the NCAA tournament picture.
Bracketology with Joe Lunardi:
Last Four Byes: New Mexico, Virginia (LOST)
First Four Out: Texas A&M, Utah, Villanova (ALL LOST)
Next Four Out: Butler, Ole Miss, Drake, Oregon (ALL LOST)
Next Four: Cincinnati, Iowa (LOST)
With 11 bubble teams taking a loss on Saturday, is the latest Sunday morning projections per the national experts. Despite everything that happened yesterday, nothing changed with Lunardi’s Bubble Teams except Oregon moving down and Cincinnati moving up. This is eye-opening considering Cincinnati got pounded by TCU, 75-57. Also, the continued love for teams such as Texas A&M, Villanova and Drake makes little sense.
There seems to be a lag on these daily Lunardi Bracketology twitter posts vs his official releases on espn. When Pitt got blown out by Wake they didn’t drop off for a day or two. I was surprised they were still there the next day, then the following day they dropped off.
Win and in
lunardi is the 98th ranked bracket expert now, ESPN does not even try anymore…
It’s not about where anyone is at on February 25th. 4 more games plus the ACC tournament. That should give Pitt two more Quad 1 opportunities . Clemson and whoever they face in the ACC tourney. Today’s rankings don’t matter much. Austin needs to keep playing like this.
Pitt is clearly one of the best 65 programs right now. Just stop with this bracketology b.s..
