Pitt FB Recruiting

Wednesday Night Recruiting Notes

The Pitt football coaches are busy, which means so are we. Here’s the latest that I’m hearing:

**Pitt RB Coach Andre Powell will spend the day in Virginia recruiting.  However, tomorrow he’ll be in DC/Baltimore checking in with 2017 prospects.

**Tight End Coach Tim Salem was in New Jersey yesterday and visited talent rich Paramas Catholic. While there, I’m told he recruited Donald Stewart, Allan Walters, Drew Singleton, Corey Holds and Bartek Rybka.

**While in Georgia, LB coach Rob Harley met with OLB Emmanuel Belmar, Jr.   Interesting thing about Belmar (6-2, 220) is that he’s verbally committed already to Virginia Tech. I talked with Belmar, who told me Pitt didn’t offer (yet) but said they’re interested. Hope to hear more from Belmar later this afternoon.

UPDATE (2:30 PM):

**Pitt coaches will have plenty of in-home visits tonight.  Here are the ones that I’ve confirmed:

Amir Watts (Chicago DT) will host Pitt D-Line Coach Tom Sims

Chase Pine (Pitt 2016 commit) will host LB coach Rob Harley

Patrice Rene (Virginia CB and Rutgers commit) will host RB coach Andre Powell

Chawntez Moss (Pitt 2016 commit) will host offensive coordinator Jim Chaney

Bryce Hargrove (Pitt 2016 commit) will host Pat Narduzzi and Jim Chaney

Ruben Flowers (Pitt 2016 commit) will host wide receivers coach Kevin Sherman

UPDATE (7:03 PM)-

**Pitt RB coach Andre Powell was at Gonzaga HS (Washington DC) today looking in on Johnny Jordan G/C  (6-3, 295).  Jordan told me, “No offer from Pitt but they told me they really liked me. I have offers from Kentucky and North Carolina.”

UPDATE (7:36 PM)-

**Clairton WR Aaron Mathews told me that he plans on making his official visit to Pitt on January 15.  I believe Mathews will pick between Pitt, West Virginia and NC State.

UPDATE (9:30 PM)-

**Cameron Brown (Potomac, MD) is a 4-star OLB that’s already committed to Penn State. However, a member of the Pitt coaching staff met with Brown to gauge his commitment level to Penn State. Andre Powell was in Maryland today to talk with Brown.

“Coach Powell came to my school to point out the success the school had this year”, said Brown.  “No, I won’t be taking any official visits. I’m 100% committed to Penn State.”

UPDATE (10:45 PM):

*Defensive coordinator Josh Conklin has wrapped up a visit with talented Florida CB Henry Miller.  Working to contact Miller to find out any information on the visit.

*RB coach Andre Powell met tonight with 4-star CB and current Rutgers commit Patrice Rene.   He’s a big-time talent and someone Pitt will really work to make an official visit to Pitt.  Rene could really add to the talent level in the Pitt secondary.
