UPDATE (7:12 AM)-
**Lost in all of the big news yesterday was that the Pitt coaching staff extended another offer. Atlanta (GA) 2018 TE/DE John FitzPatrick (6-6, 230 lbs.) received an offer from Pitt, his first from a Power 5 school.
UPDATE (6:31 AM)-
**So, what’s the big news that I was hinting at last night? A pretty big name is expressing interest in Pitt’s vacant athletic directors position. Sources tell Pittsburgh Sports Now that former Ohio State coach and current Youngstown State President Jim Tressel is quite interested in the job.
I’m told that Tressel has reached out, possibly multiple times, to a member of a major search firm asking about Pitt and expressing his interest. Keep in mind, to this point, this has been a one way street (as far as I know). Pitt hasn’t spoken to Tressel, or even begun the process of forming a list of candidates.
A big job of an athletic director is the ability to fund raise and there’s no doubt that Tressel could do that.
Since the Scott Barnes news just became official yesterday this process is just getting started and I’m sure more names will surface but here’s the first name for you: Jim Tressel.
