Five Names to Watch for Pitt Basketball Recruiting

The commitment last night of 4-star forward Bryce Golden was some much needed good news for the Pitt basketball program. The talented forward from Maryland is a player that the coaches had been recruiting since arriving last year and the hard work paid off.

That’s the first commitment for 2018, the question now is who will be next?

After talking with some people, including some recruiting experts, here are five names that we think you should keep your eye if you’re a Pitt basketball fan. From what we understand, these are players that Pitt is recruiting pretty hard.

1) Jarvis Thomas: power forward (6-7, 225) from Long Lake, Minnesota. Along with Pitt, Thomas also holds offers from Arizona State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Marquette, Texas A&M, Oregon State and Wake Forest. Thomas is attending a camp at Wisconsin today so keep it’s possible he receives an offer from the Badgers. From what we understand, Thomas is a big priority for Pitt.

2) Nate Laszewski: a Rivals 4-star power forward (6-foot-7, 190 pounds) from Northfield, Massachusetts. Aside from Pitt, Laszewski also has been offered by Villanvoa, USC, Texas A&M, Texas, Miami, Baylor and Stanford. When I asked a scout about him, he told me, “think Chandler Parson but shoots it better.”

3) Marcus Zegarowski: a 247 Sports 3-star point guard (6-foot-1, 165 pounds) from Hamilton, Massachusetts. Zegarowski holds offers from Pitt, Washington, VCU, Minnesota, Arizona State and Creighton. Zegarowski is the younger brother of Chicago Bulls guard Michael Carter-Williams.

4) Jerome Hunter: Like Golden, Hunter is a player that the Pitt coaches have been recruiting hard from the start. Hunter is a 247 Sports 4-star small forward (6-foot-7, 195 pounds) from Pickerington, Ohio. The Top 100 athlete also has been offered by Michigan, Ohio State, Butler, Dayton, West Virginia, Purdue and Xavier.

5) Tyrese Samuel: a power forward (6-foot-8, 195 pounds) from Upper Marlboro, Maryland with offers from Wichita State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, SMU, Rhode Island and Providence. Samuel is a bit of an under the radar recruit because he recently arrived in Maryland from Montreal, Canada.

Pitt is obviously recruiting more than these five players but wanted to let you know about these guys and let’s see what develops in the future.
