The Pitt coaching staff has targeted a pair of players from Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas: linebaker Will Honas and running back Kevon Abrams. Pat Narduzzi flew to Kansas to meet with both yesterday. He spent last night with linebacker Will Honas and his parents to discuss the opportunity at Pitt. Pittsburgh Sports Now followed up with Honas about the meeting.

“The (visit) went well, we just talked about Pitt and the opportunity that there. We discussed everything from football and academics,” said Honas.  “We talked about their defense. I would play Mike linebacker. He told me I would have to come in and compete for that spot.”

Honas has accumulated a dozen scholarship offers including Pitt, Arkansas, Kansas State, Iowa, Kansas, Easter Michigan, Mississippi, Toledo, Houston, Bowling Green, California and Coastal Carolina.

He was asked of his parents impressions on the meeting and he stated, “They enjoyed it. He was pretty interesting to listen to. Coach talked about his coaching experience and what he’s done in football.”

Honas has set official visits with Iowa and Kansas State. He discussed a potential official visit to Pitt but has yet to set a date.

He was asked what specifically he would be looking for on an official visit and he stated, “Honestly, like the opportunity to play right away and academics and just kind of the right fit as far as the coaches and the people there.”

When watching his highlights throughout the season, it’s easy to come away impressed with the physical linebacker. He was asked about his strengths at the position and he stated, “I think instinctually I stand out and then also I’m smarter than some of the other guys playing the position. So I think that gives me advantage as far knowing like what’s going on and understanding the game.”

“I just have to sit down and discuss the opportunity at Pitt with my parents. We’ll discuss scheduling an official visit.”

NOTE: While linebacker Will Honas potentially will be scheduling an official visit, running back Kevon Abrams (5-foot-9 inches, 185 pound) scheduled an official visit to Pitt the weekend of December 8th – 10th.
