Most people were under the impression that Pitt was hosting four uncommitted recruits this weekend.

Well, you can increase that number by one.

PSN has learned that 2018 cornerback Erick Hallett from Cypress, Texas was in town for a visit.

Not only did Hallett visit but he left town with an offer from the Pitt Panthers.

An interesting angle to Hallett is that he’s a player that Pitt started recruiting because of new defensive coordinator Randy Bates.

This evening after getting back home to Houston, PSN had a chance to talk with Hallett about his first trip to Pittsburgh.

“Coach Bates and I have been talking for a while now going back to when he was at Northwestern. My talks with Pitt picked up speed when he was hired at Pitt,” said Hallett.

”Then last Wednesday, Coach Narduzzi and Coach Watson came down to visit me and then did a home visit that night. It was then I decided to come up for an official visit.”

Since this has happened fairly quick and it was his first time meeting the Panthers head coach, I asked Hallett what Narduzzi said that sold him on making a visit to Pitt.

“They really just sold me on the people and there’s great people at the university and Pittsburgh is a great city, so I wanted to come see myself.”

Hallett arrived on Friday and stayed till today. What did he think of the visit?

”I thought the visit was great. I loved the coaches and the players that I met. The campus was nice, as were the facilities. Of course it’s always nice to share facilities with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s a huge perk,” said Hallett.

“Just seeing the interaction between the coaching staff and the way the players got along, it just seemed like a big old family.”

Coach Bates is a relatively new name to everyone in Pittsburgh but he’s not to Hallett. I asked him his impression of Bates and to describe him.

”He’s just a really good guy overall. He always looks on the positive side if things and is always so optimistic. He seems like such a great family man and someone who cares about his players and the people around him,” said Hallett.

So, what’s next for this Texas cornerback and where does Pitt sit with him?

”I plan on announcing on Signing Day but Pitt is definitely at the top of my list and I’m highly considering them.”
