PITTSBURGH — Wednesday evening, Pitt wide receiver Tre Tipton thought he was going to Kennard Field in the Hill District with some of his teammates to talk to the Hill Rebels — a youth football team that’s gone 8-0 so far this season.
Tipton did that, along with several of his teammates and Pitt life skills staff member and former Panthers great Lousaka Polite.
What happened next, Tipton wasn’t expecting.
Polite surprised Tipton by presenting him with his AFCA Good Works Team Award. Before the season, Tipton was selected as one of 137 nominees for the award. Wednesday, he became one of 11 FBS-level winners.
