Pitt Talking With 2020 Georgia CB Konata Mumpfield

Could Pitt be trying to replace a Georgia cornerback decommitment with another one from Georgia?

2020 3-star cornerback Tee Denson announced a couple weeks ago that he was re-opening his recruitment so Pitt is actively looking to add another defensive back.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that defensive back coach Archie Collins is talking with another cornerback from Georgia.

Konata Mumpfield (6’0”, 170) from Dacula, Georgia has been in contact recently with Collins and sounds optimistic about where things might go. This is big for Mumpfield because it could be his first Power Five offer.

”We start talking over a week ago,” Mumpfield tells PSN. “Chad Simmons from Rivals posted a picture of me and then 247 sent my film to the Pitt coaching staff and then Coach Collins liked it and started following me.”

”The fact that Coach contacted me and has stayed in touch us great and I’m very happy. Pitt is a Power 5 program from the ACC and playing that level of football has always been my dream.”

Mumpfield is getting recruited by other programs to play both wide receiver and defensive back but tells me that Pitt likes him as a cornerback.

”He’s telling me that he needs some more defensive back film on me but that he really likes the way I play. He says I have all the intangibles to play defensive back,” said Mumpfield.

“I think that I’m very smooth and energetic on the field. I think my hips are very good and with the training I’ve received, I believe my technique is solid. I have good size, speed and have good vision of the field.”

Finally, I asked Mumpfield where he believes things currently stand with Pitt and if an offer could be coming.

”We’re talking a lot. My high school team is still playing and we’re actually undefeated in 6A. An offer has been talked about but he said that I have to be totally committed towards playing defensive back.”

”I’m hoping that an offer comes and I feel as though the more I talk with him and build our relationship and he sees more film on me that an offer could come. If an offer comes, I would thank God for blessing me and my family.”
