Pitt unveiled a new set of alternate uniforms via Twitter on Sunday that the team will wear for the first time this week against Louisville.
The Panthers will wear dark gray uniforms, with light grey numbers and lettering and gold accents, and a light gray helmet with a dark gray Panther head logo.
The gray uniforms pay tribute to the city’s steelworking industry. There is a gold patch with a blacksmith working on an anvil on the front of the uniform and an “H2P” patch evocative of the US Steel logo on the sleeves.
The numbers and fonts appear to the the same as Pitt’s primary uniform set, which debuted in 2019. This is the first alternate uniform released in this uniform set. The last time Pitt had an alternate uniform was in 2016, when the debuted their athletic gold and royal blue throwback uniforms.
Boooooooooooo. Is grey in the color scheme? Nope. Thats not Pitt. I thought they were smarter than this.
You’ve got to be kidding me! The one thing they get national recognition for is their uniforms and they have to screw that up too!
The kids are all into alternate uni’s..these are cool…not my preference, but they are just an alternate jersey, so I am fine with that..they do a good job of representing our steel industry heritage.
Who thought this up? This is moronic This is perfect for unHappy Valley
Actually they have been one of the few schools that haven’t been dumb enough to ruin the brand.
Love that we’re mixing in alternate uni’s and these aren’t terrrrrible, but I’d love to see some of our actual colors mixed in. No reason the Panther head couldn’t be yellow/blue, a colored facemask, yellow H2P logo, etc.
What a terrible “alternative” uniform. It’s an alternative for lousy? What’s wrong with the blue, gold, and white? Whoever had this idea should be fired. If Nike had something to do with this, it’s yet another reason to boycott Nike.
