Pitt Women’s Soccer Adds Arkansas Transfer Ashton Gordon

After a successful 2020 fall portion of the schedule, Pitt women’s soccer coach Randy Waldrum has added a transfer for the 2021 season.

Pitt has added former Arkansas midfielder Ashton Gordon to the mix. Gordon will have to sit out the remainder of the 2020-21 season at Pitt, but will be able to join the Panthers for training this winter and get on the pitch in blue and gold next fall.

“We are extremely excited about the addition of Ashton,” Waldrum said in a press release. “Ashton was the top player coming out in her region and Top-50 players nationally out of high school. She’s a tough, tenacious defender that’s excellent in the air but also has the technical ability to help set play and build out of the back. She has great tools as a player but her leadership, soccer IQ, and maturity as a person will impact our program right away.”

Gordon, a 5-foot-11 midfielder who started 17 games over the last two seasons with the Razorbacks, will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Panthers. She started 14 matches in 2019 as a freshman while Arkansas made it to the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, but played in just three games this fall.

A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gordon was the No. 55 recruit in the nation out of Booker T. Washington High School.

“I chose the University of Pittsburgh because I see it as a great opportunity for me to grow and get out of my comfort zone,” Gordon said. “The program is achieving a lot of ‘firsts’ and that is something I want to be a part of. Simultaneously, I will play for an exceptional coaching staff in one of the best women’s soccer conferences in the countries.”

The Panthers finished the fall portion of their schedule with a 9-5 overall record and a 3-5 mark in ACC play. The Panthers did not qualify for the eight-team ACC Tournament, and will play two more games in the spring.

Pitt has not won nine games in a full season since 2015, when they finished 10-7-1. They were also ranked this season for the first time in program history.
