2022 N.C. Prospect DJ Nix Schedules Visit to Pitt

As the recruiting live period continues to heat up with visits and offers, Pitt has penciled in small forward DJ Nix for an unofficial visit to Pitt on June 15, his coach Ché Roth told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Nix is a 6-foot-6 prospect in the class of 2022 who plays for Cannon School, alongside fellow Pitt target Christian Reeves. Nix does not hold an offer from Pitt yet, but has been recruited by the staff for several months now.

“Jason Capel has talked to me about him,” Roth told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “He likes DJ’s versatility, his ability to shoot the basketball. But just his size. He can play with the ball in his hands, he can play on the wing, with his back to the basket, so his versatility, I think, is most attractive to Jason. The Capel’s have a pretty good feel for big guards, given that they were both big guards.”

Nix is ranked as the No. 227 prospect in the nation, as well as the No. 51 small forward, according to 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings. This past season, Nix shot 51% from three-point range, 92% from the free-throw stripe, and 67% on all field goals, and Roth calls him ‘the most efficient player’ that he has ever coached.

“I have seen him improve and he can shoot the flipping cover off the ball,” Roth added. “…He is the most efficient player that I have ever coached. That includes 13 years of coaching in college before Cannon. He does a lot of a lot. He can post, he can put down, he scores with his feet in the paint, he obviously knocks down the three at a high rate. DJ’s greatest strength is probably his feel for the game, his competitiveness, and then he is an elite level passer.”

In addition to Nix, Pitt will also be hosting Elmore James on June 15.
