On Monday afternoon, Pro Football Focus released its Preseason All-America team, and Pitt’s sophomore defensive tackle Calijah Kancey received an honorable mention nod at the interior defensive line spot.
Kancey, who was named a Freshman All-American last season by The Athletic, Rivals, and the Football Writers Association of America, had 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two pass breakups and 1.5 sacks last year in 11 games.
The 6-foot, 270-pound Miami native saw an increased role last season due to Jaylen Twyman’s decision to opt out of his junior season and started each of the final four games.
Kancey is joined on PFF’s Preseason All-America team at the interior defensive line position by Ohio State’s Haskell Garrett (First-Team), West Virginia’s Dante Stills (Second-Team), and Clemson’s Bryan Bresee (Third-Team). He is also joined on the overall team by Panthers punter Kirk Christodoulou.
