Robert Morris men’s basketball began its final road trip of the 2021-22 regular season at Northern Kentucky Thursday night.

RMU (7-22, 5-15 Horizon League) struggled to contain Marques Warrick, who was the main difference maker in the team’s 78-62 lost to the Norse (17-13,13-6).

The Colonials were playing catch-up the entire first half with NKU earning a 20-8 lead six minutes into the game.

Northern Kentucky led 46-31 at the half thanks to Warrick’s 20 points spanning the first 20 minutes.

Kam Farris made three triples off the bench to pace RMU at nine points. Starters Enoch Cheeks and Michael Green III both contributed six points apiece.

Sam Vinson was the next closest NKU scorer with eight points and two assists.

RMU shot 52% in the first half but was out-rebounded 15-10 and 6-3 on the offensive boards.

Seven turnovers for the Colonials made a major difference compared to three given away by NKU.

The second half mirrored first half action but RMU broke close to even with NKU.

The Norse still outscored the Colonials 32-31 but Robert Morris did put up a more competitive fight.

Every time RMU tried to climb back and make it competitive, NKU had an answer, making the lead insurmountable for the road team.

The Colonials remain 10th in the conference standings with NKU moving from 3rd to a tie at 2nd trailing first place Cleveland State.

Warrick torched RMU for a game-high 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting.

Trevon Faulkner was the only other Norse player in double figures with 10.

Farris was the scoring leader for RMU, 14, and was joined in double digits by Kahliel Spear (12), Matt Mayers (11), and Cheeks (10).

The Colonials ended up winning the turnover margin 12-9, but were down by 29 at one point in the loss.

The team finished shooting 48.1% from the floor and 6-of-14 from three.

Robert Morris concludes the regular season at Wright State Saturday night at 7 p.m.
