Carlton Carrington Pitt basketball recruiting

Just days after taking an official visit to Pitt, class-of-2023 guard Carlton Carrington has now set a commitment date and will decide between the following five schools: Pitt, George Mason, Iona, Stanford, and Loyola Chicago.

Carrington will announce his commitment at Noon EST on Wednesday, June 15 on a live stream with CBS Sports. After speaking with Carrington on multiple occasions before and after his visit, PSN believes that Pitt is the clear favorite to land Carrington.

Carrington is a four-star guard, ranked as the No. 100 overall prospect in the class by 247Sports. He stands at 6-foot-3 and plays for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, as well as Team Melo on the Nike EYBL circuit. He has been talking with associate head coach Milan Brown as well as head coach Jeff Capel for more than one year now, and has visited Pitt’s campus twice since last fall.

Pitt Basketball Receives Official Visit From 2023 4-Star Shooting Guard Carlton Carrington

“I’ve been communicating with Coach Brown and Coach Capel a lot and actually for over a year now,” Carrington tells PSN. “Our communication during this time has gone really well and they told me that they wanted me to come up for an official visit, so I accepted the opportunity [to visit]. What stood out to me about the weekend was the amazing campus that Pitt has, plus the surrounding area. Also, just everything that the University of Pittsburgh has to offer aside from just athletics. Basketball wise, what stands out to me about Pitt is the amazing conference that they play in along with the coaches on the staff. Also, getting to see it, Pitt’s basketball facilities are really nice.”

Carrington is known for his outstanding shooting ability above all other skills, but also has excellent length out on the wing that allows him to defend and make plays.

“Pitt is trying to recruit me and sell me on the opportunity that I would have here to play right away,” said Carrington. “Of course, it would be up to me and how I’d perform, but I could play right from the start. I really like that because I want a college that I can come in right away and play, especially in a conference that they’re in. They brought up to me all of the guards that will be graduating after this coming season.”

If he does commit to the Panthers, Carrington will join wing Marlon Barnes out of Brush high school in Cleveland, Ohio as the 2023 prospects committed to the program heading into their senior seasons.

Interesting list of 5 schools for a 4 star… would love to have more details on how he got down to those schools…

Those are exactly my thoughts. Seems like a really good recruit to have those 5 schools.

I’m hoping those 5 schools are good for his major or something academically

It’s not all that odd these are his 5 favorites in my opinion. George Mason is not far from Maryland so it could be proximity for them. Iona is coached by Pitino. Stanford is Stanford and Loyola Chicago has had the most success out of any of these teams in the past 5-6 years.

He’s mentioned playing early is something important to him, all 5 may afford him that opportunity.

Seems like a solid get for Pitt and pairing him with Barnes is a good start for the 23 recruiting class.

After a drought due to some near misses and some key defections seems v like the magic is returning. This years addition is deeper and experienced in the back court, and he is laying a solid foundation for the future.

“Magic is returning” Is that a joke? When was there any magic under him?

haha….Pitt’s additions have it ranked 12th of 14 ACC teams per Rivals. Yep that’s solid.

Magical in fact. “ This year’s addition”. How can you take this nonsense seriously?

Milan is a loser….so there is no chance or minimal chance he ‘closes’ on this kid.
