On Friday, Pitt head basketball coach Jeff Capel received the honor of the G.I.B.S.O.N sports award, given by the Josh Gibson Foundation.
The award was given to Capel at a luncheon at PNC Park on Friday.
“As part of the festivities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Josh Gibson’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Josh Gibson Foundation continues its tradition of awarding local figures its prestigious G.I.B.S.O.N awards.”
According to a release from the Pitt men’s basketball program, “The G.I.B.S.O.N. Awards honor people in the Pittsburgh community who have made a difference in the categories of government, civil service, business, sports, community service and education.”
The winners of the award follow: Jay Costa (Government), Dr. Rhonda Johnson (Civil Service), Nisha Blackwell (Business), Jeff Capel (Sports), Father Michael Conway (Service), and Steve Tanzilli (Education).
