Pitt Opens as Heavy Favorite Over Coach-Less Georgia Tech

Published

on

Pitt is coming off a 3-1 start to the season, the lone loss coming in overtime to No. 8 Tennessee with backup Nick Patti playing through injury.

Georgia Tech is 1-3, with losses to Clemson, Ole Miss and UCF, and now searching for a new coach following Geoff Collins being fired. It’s a tale of two programs, and the oddsmakers favor Pitt heavily entering Saturday’s primetime matchup.

Pitt opens as 18-point favorites against Georgia Tech in what’s expected to be a low-scoring game — the over/under set at 49.5 points.

FanDuel Sportsbook hasn’t set a line for Pitt-Georgia Tech yet, but DraftKings Sportsbook has. Pitt is a 20-point favorite over Georgia Tech. A bet for Pitt to cover holds -120 odds while a bet for GT to cover holds +100 odds.

The over/under has been set at 50.5 points, with both the over and under holding -110 odds, while the Moneyline bets feature Pitt with -1,250 odds and GT with +800 odds.

Pitt is 11-3 all-time against Georgia Tech, dating back to an original 1918 matchup. Pitt won the first five matchups between 1918-76. Georgia Tech won back-to-back meetings in 2013-14, but Pitt has won six of seven matchups since then.

That includes four straight wins for Pitt, including a 52-21 win in Atlanta, Georgia last season in which Kenny Pickett’s 389 yards and four touchdowns established his Heisman Trophy campaign.

It’s been a tough season for Georgia Tech, one in which head coach Geoff Collins has been fired following a 10-28 tenure, and the Yellow Jackets are currently 1-3 on the season.

Georgia Tech is currently 3-1 against the spread this season while Pitt is 1-3.
